I have tiny feet so I can never find shoes that are age-suitable. Where can I buy trendy shoes in small sizes?

Q. I have size 2.5 or 3 feet and can never find any nice shoes for my age (I'm going to be 19 in a month). I'd love to be able to find shoes that are reasonably priced as well as trendy that I can fit into.

A. I know that Zappos definitely carries smaller shoe sizes. Most internet sites will.

Next time you go shoe shopping, find something you like and ask the clerk if you can order it in your size. A lot of stores only stock the most popular sizes even though other sizes are available.

Where can I find the hottest and trendy shoes in my size??!! I am a woman's size 11?
Q. I need wedges, pumps, heels and flats. I love shoes,I just have a hard time finding the hottest shoes people with smaller feet are wearing right now that are my size. I try to search the websites(don't know of too many) but they are either too expensive or too ugly....HELPPPPP!!!

A. Barefoot tess is one site that I know of http://www.barefoottess.com/

Good luck

What are some good first day of school outfits?

Q. I'm moving out of elementary school and onto Junior High and I want to make a good impression. I'm gonna be in 7th grade. I like to shop at stores like dEliAs, Wet Seal, and Aeropostale. I have a good pair of jean shorts I might wear, but mostly I need, like a colorful blouse or something. I'm open to all suggestions!!

A. oh my gosh girl i'm so excited for you! (: when i was going into seventh grade i was SOOO excited!
i can completely understand why you want to make a good impression.

but anyways, make sure the shorts fit the dress code! because dressing really revealing-ish to school will not start you off well! but as long as they are, lets get started.(:

i would probably wear like a flowy-top! so here's a few examples:
http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=52490&categoryID=1484&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

*also, boho prints are really in style this summer!

http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=53597&categoryID=2162&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

http://www.aeropostale.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4131423&cp=3534618.3534619.3534623.3541050.3536151.1988321

http://www.abercrombiekids.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10101_10851_656377_-1_12155_12103

now, i know that all of these are spaghetti-straps, and that may not be appropriate for your school.
but, you can just pair them with a cute cardigan, or a shrug!

here's some examples:
http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=53540&categoryID=458&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=52741&categoryID=458&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

now, you don't have to get the exact things i recommended, they were just sort a hint on what i would go for if i were you! (:

and for shoes, if you need shoes, i would go with some along these lines:
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=55151&vid=1&pid=753305&scid=753305052
they have all kinds of colors that would match things, but you don't have to get those exact ones! they're really trendy where i live.
or, i would recommend getting a pair of rainbow flip flops! like these:
http://www.rainbowsandals.com/Color301.aspx i have a pair, and they are still in awesome condition ever since 2008. i have the thin strap ones in the brown, but whatever floats your boat!
i hope you have an awesome year girl! make tons of friends, and don't obsess over boys! (:
have a great time!

What is appropriate casual and "going out" clothing for a 26 year old female?
Q. Would you be able to give me some specifics, maybe a list of specifics that should be in the wardrobe? And should I be shopping in the woman's section or junior's section of a department store?

A. know how to mix and match. :) nothing wrong w/ junior's dept if it fits you! also, know what is appropriate for work wear, and the rest is up to you.

here what is in my wardrobe that i wear most of the time, and i am 26 too!

Jeans (shorter pair to wear w/ flats, one longer and fits better for heels/boots). Citizens have good jeans, i wear those everyday! but are $$$$... if u do'nt want to splurge u can go to ross, i got a pair of BCBG jeans for like $25.

White button up blouse: u can wear it w/ aNYTHING!

Wide Belt in black or brown. definitely makes any outfit a bit more stylish.

Nice jacket.. right now i have a really nice Cordoroy Dark Purple jacket from J.Crew (got it on sale for only $30! was $150 before~), i also have a $25 one from Target that is black and velvet.. very cute.

Nice Coat.. for night time and cold weather. u can wear this w/ jeans OR with dresses!

A handful of cute dresses.. either summer dresses, classic, or trendy. i have a cute Forever 21 dress (red w/ polka dots and puffed sleeves), a pretty classic type Ann Taylor Teal Blue dress w/ antique style buttons and black and beige trim... right now a cute look is a chiffon flowy dress w/ dark tights and a chunky knit sweater and belt!!!!

Jewelry: right now i like Long necklaces, and u can pair them up w/ different length necklaces and bracelets. Forever 21 has great ones for like $7.00, and some of them look really classy too if u pair them up w/ right clothes.

Shoes: at least one pair of flats, one pair of boots, and one pair of sneakers/comfy walking shoes, and as many cute Heels, Pumps, and Sandals as possible!

a great look is this: jeans, white blouse, wide belt at the skinniest part of the waist, cute jacket on top, and either boots or flats. u can also substitute a cardigan for the jacket and put the belt over (or under) as well. i'd also like to invest in a cute Pencil Skirt, u can tuck in the white blouse and put the belt over! sooo cute...

make sure ur hair and makeup always looks good, and no matter what u wear u will look trendy~ :)

small touches of detail that make some unique

flat shoes

Why do British women feel the need to wear preposterous hats to public functions?

Q. American women are far more elegant when they wear a hat. I am thinking of Jackie O who set the standard. And French women know the need for understatement and elegance in headwear. British women wear hats that make them look like a cross between Little Bo Peep and a botannical experiment. Don't they see what clowns they look like or am I missing something here?

A. maybe they wear impractical hats just as we have impractical shoes - infers status (to wear high maintenance, and disposable income on trendy frivolity.)

I am thinking about buying a men/women's clothing store in a small town. What can I do to update it?
Q. I can't spend a lot of money, but I would like to make the store not look so 80's. Any suggestions about how to update dressing rooms, choose paint colors, use trendy decor would be appreciated. Also, what kind of fixtures are popular right now (mannequins, racks, display cases)? If you have any tips on going to market, that would be great too!

A. well i would try store supply.com & my friend redid an old store with tons of stuff from ikea they are affordable & easy to assemble. For the markets i would take alot of linesheets & write notes dont sign anything incase you change your mind you doont want them to have your signature because then its hard to cancel an order. I usually write all my orders after the show to see all my options you can budget that way better too. Definetly wear comfortable shoes & bring some candy or granola bars because it gets tiring talking allll day. My favorite show is in vegas Magic & project you need to go the whole time because they also have alot of great seminars that you can learn from. http://show.magiconline.com/magic/v42/index.cvn

What are some trendy and cute teen shoes right now?

Q. I'm 13 and I want to know what are trendy and cute shoes for gr. 8 going back to school.
I know, I know, it's what I think looks good, but I want to know your opinion.

Thanks

A. Sperry's boat shoes, Gladiator sandals, and Havaianas flip flops (very comfortable flip flops).

How can I make this DULL work requirement trendy and something fun?
Q. We have an event coming up at work where we're going to be required to wear a button up shirt and khaki pants. This so isn't my style. We cannot wear sandals or tennis-shoes. I'll be on my feet all day, so low heels or flats will be my likely option for feet. How do you recommend I spice this incrediably dull outfit up?

A. Wear a white, kind of ruffly in the front, button down shirt. Wear a yellow or red pearl necklace and black or brown khaki pants! That will make you stand out.
Also, wear a black or red or brown vest with a white shirt. Wear red, brown or yellow khaki pants with the black shirt or black or brown ka=hakis with a red shirt. Wear one inch heels that are very comfortable. Accesorize with poppy earrings, and a watch or necklace! OMG! I would hate to wear that. Good luck!

Q. Hi!
I am 6'1 and have a really hard time finding flats or boots in my size that aren't too high heeled or terribly drab.

Does anyone know of some good sites or stores to find some trendy shoes in a size 12 (besides Zappos)?

Thanks!

what are some good sturdy shoes that i can wear when walking around in europe?

Q. we will be walking a lot visiting museums, etc... for four months.

but here's the catch - i'm a huge fashionista - i refuse to wear ugly sneakers or hiking boots.

instead of calling me a prima donna (haha)...
...do you have any suggestions as to what kind of shoes i can bring on my trip? the weather in most places will be moderate. they should be sturdy, durable, comfortable, closed-toed, but also somewhat fashionable.

thank you all!
<3
=]

A. When I travel I like to bring Converse (all stars). They come in every color, are comfortable, easy to keep clean, and are classic with a touch of both trendy and retro styles.

They are so slim and easy to pack that I can easily fit 2 pairs into a small bag.

I find most (hiking) boots quite clunky for everyday wear.

How to Dress for NYC in November?
Q. I'll be in NYC in early November. I live in Florida and so I have no idea how to dress for cold weather, usually I just throw on a sweatshirt.

How cold does it get in NY around that time, and do you have to wear a coat, or is a sweater OK? Also, what kind of shoes do you recommend, like trendy boots or tennis shoes (walking a lot). Thanks.
thanks for the answers yall! They were all very helpful.

A. 1. Take a shower
2. Dry yourself off with a towel
3. Slide on some underwear
4. I usually do pants next
5. Now time for a shirt
6. If you don't already have socks on, put them on... otherwise you're ready to slip into some shoes.
7. Now put on a jacket, scarf, whatever you think will look good and keep you warm. It's easier to take stuff off than it is to put more on.
8. Congratulations! You have successfully dressed yourself! Keep in mind that this works no matter what city you are in. This method actually even works in other countries! Now step outside and enjoy the day in the comfort and convenience of modern clothing!

Just kidding. It's already in the low 60's during the day, high 40's at night. So you'll want a jacket, coat, hat, whatever. I'm still fine in a light hoodie, but peoples heat and cold tolerances vary so it's a good idea to come wearing more and take it off than it is to come wearing less and wish you had brought more. I personally wear Converse shoes year round, so boots aren't necessary. Just depends on how accustomed you are to long walks.
Have fun.

Prom dresses for 2011?

Q. I'm going to a combined junior and senior prom with my boyfriend, so the first problem I have is: should I wear a short or a long dress? I would definitely be more comfortable in a short dress because I am short (about 5' 3") and I don't want to feel drowned by a dress. Second, I don't want a sparkly or shiny dress, just something simple, with a closed back. I found this dress: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=13658&vid=1&pid=836590 but obviously I want something much nicer than that, but something along those lines. I also like this one: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/en-creme-lace-illusion-dress-juniors/3169789?origin=category&resultback=635 I want a champagne colored one because spring break is right before and I'll be really tan and it will complement it well. Any suggestions/help are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Fall:
Haha! the Fall runways shows came out a few days ago but here is just the general gist of it:

70s fashion
Like the '50s and '60s coming back, so are the '70s! There are two main aesthetics: '70s bohemian, and '70s sophisticated glamour. This includes dresses that fall like shimmering water in the evening and high-waist pants with elegant blouses by day! High waisted wide-leg pants or flares, smartly belted in.Neat bow-blouses, especially ones with billowing or bishop sleeves. Particularly great are fabrics like silk and satin.Roll neck sweaters tucked into pants or skirts. Also layering over beaded necklaces or a vest!

Pleats- Popular in spring and also for fall! However, then pleats will be worn paired socks or tights and heels, and some cosy layers on top. A rock-chic pair of boots, mixed styles for contrasts (like flowly pleated skirts with a bohemian fur or a tough biker jacket), etc....

Fur Clothing- as always...
Bell Bottoms- aka Flare jeans
Wide Leg Pants

Accessories:
Leather-ware harness
Choker necklaces
Cuff bracelets!
Studs

Colors: This year fall is slightly different! Bright colors are also going to be trendy with fall!
Black
Olive
Bronze shades?
Midnight blue, silver, and gray shades
Forest green and plum

Oh! and I think that the popular tribal print will be slightly reinvented as a trend for Autumn too!
Uhh Feather, Tribal, Army green will be popular in both seasons!

Dress nonchalantly. Don't overdo it or under do it by wearing sweats. I think the 2nd and 3rd days are the days you should wear you cute new stuff :D. Be different!
Oh! I was going to add... you should also buy cute jackets like white jean jacket, cropped jean jacket, etc over dresses (very cute) or tanks that don't meet dresscode and Miss me jeans, uggs, Juicy couture, Pink hoodies, Coach bags are also popular

What worse according to you: "Out of style" or "Inappropriate dressed for the occassion"?
Q. Imaging these two sceaniors:
Occasion: Meeting in-laws or family dinner with elders

Girl A) A girl wore a super short skirt + 4" trendy stilettos with a sheer blouse with bandeau top underneath + bright lipstick + flashy juwelry. A person who believe there shouldnt be any dresscodes or "inappropriate wear", that she should flaunt her body and people shouldnt't care about what she wear, that she should be accepted by her personality --- or she wore it because guys "love it".

Girl B) She wore a nice daytime floral dress that are above the knee, pantyhose, dainty jewelry + her mom's old oxford 2" pumps (if you dont know what this is, its men inspired dress shoes with heels) that she love. A person who appreciate vintage and doesnt care much about trend who value comfort over style.

Which girl would you say would dress "inappropriate" for this type of occasion?

and I can admit, I would be girl B. I love vintage and wear it alot. Everytime I ask if an outfit is appropriate or not, for some reason I always get crap about my taste for clothes. That they are not in style, that they are something a mother would wear, that they are stupid, they are not suited for my age (24) etc etc and that I "should" wear stilettos (despite I tell them I've a foot injury) or bodycon mini dresses instead or opt for a t-shirt and jeans look. :S

Why do people mix up "personal style" with dressing "inappropriated/"disrespectful"?
and why does it feels like people care more about what decade the clothes are from, nowadays?
Brian: You missed the point. This question doesnt have anything to do with modesty or inmodesty.
Chris: No, not for attention. I just ask these kind of questions because I find them interesting to ask about... and I like second opinions (to get a different perspective of things). Everytime I try to ask about it with relatives what THEY think, they ignore it and bash me for being childrish. If I go to a chat or forum, they complain about my grammar. So I ask on Y.A instead (but def. need to learn to summarize the details and get straight to the point. ^^;;;).
I'm studying about pshycology and fashion styles in depth daily, since a year, so Im not really a "fashion expert" but might more than the less fashion/appearance interested crowd. My dream is become a stylist.
as for Missed the point = he was more focused about the modesty. I was talking about styles and dresscodes.
A person who dress revealing or a person who wear oldfashioned clothes for something more serious/proffessional - which is worse <--- was my point. lol -.-'

A. I think it's much, much worse to dress inappropriately for the occasion. In your example, girl A is way out of line. That outfit only works in a club.

I feel like the media and celebrities have a lot to do with today's style. A lot of women see how the celebrities dress and want to emulate them, thus creating this craziness.

How can I dress better without looking like a tool?

Q. I've never taken a deep plunge into fashion, so going all out with the latest would not be in my character. I'll wear skinny jeans, but scarves seem awkward if not for cold weather. I don't really understand how to use accessories, or colors, or matching. I'm also short, so any advice on short guys dressing trendy would be greatly appreciated.

A. shirts = plain white tees, graphic tees (no logos if possible), & the occasional abercrombie shirt (dont overdo it tho, or you'll look like a douchebag!)

jeans = anything! guys can pull off virtually any style, so dont limit yourself. heres some inspiration: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/category_full_fashion_guide.jsp?catId=cat130130 -skinny jeans are tricky to pull off, so try on a lot of styles before you buy

NO fashion scarfs! please leave those to women

shoes = you can go with skater vans: http://shop.vans.com/catalog/Vans/en_US/product/men/skate-shoes/widow-men.html

the universally loved converse: http://www.converse.com/?CSID=212#/s/products/collections/specialcollection7 (high or low tops)

or (depending on the occasion) a flip flop: http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=abercrombie

for hoodies and jackets, there are many looks you can go with.

skater = vans, element, fox (you can buy these brands at Pacsun)

beachy-casual = abercrombie, hollister, aeropostle

preppy = the gap

What does it mean by tendy night club attire when going to vegas?
Q. I am going to be in vegas in 2 months and wondering what to wear and examples for men and women. Need help with this and lots of ideas especially for men! Thanks

A. Trendy means whatever is most popular at that time. Backwards baseball caps and baggy pants were once trendy for young men but now a lot of clubs frown on that look. Fancy clubs usually have a dress code posted at their entrance and on their web site. When RA was in Luxor, I read their card, it said something about men having to wear a collared shirt, no tennis shoes (sneakers) allowed, no t-shirts, no jeans. Look up the clubs on Google and look for their dress codes.

For example, here's Pure's dress code:

http://www.caesarspalace.com/casinos/caesars-palace/casino-misc/pure-nightclub-detail.html

Dress Code:
Casual Chic: Fashionable attire is required. No sports jerseys, tank tops on men, tennis shoes or athletic wear of any kind will be permitted. The dress code is at management's discretion.

Help me fashionably pack for 4 months?
Q. So this a weird question, I am going for 4 months, to Paris and Dubai. Two cities where i want to look the best and most fashionable i can. What I am kind of asking for is suggestions of must haves for spring/summer 2013.
Guys i've been to dubai before, it's not really conservative for foreigners, and it's not like I'm planning on walking around in a bikini! I am asking about trends and fashion essentials in your opinion. I don't know but 4 months is scary to pack!

A. I would take maxi dresses (not low cut) for Dubai with coordinating cropped jackets. The big hotels in Dubai are somewhat conservative but if you want to go to a marketplace, it is much more conservative.

For Paris, you need neutral pants with cute tops and at least one little black dress that you can dress up or down with accessories. Parisian women dress up more than Americans or Brits so take some heels and/or wedge shoes as well as flats for touring around and walking a lot.

For both places, I would look for clothing that combines tangerine and deep pink, the light aqua spearmint color, and a darker blue that is between navy and cobalt. Also, white shoes and handbags are trendy for this summer but difficult to keep clean when traveling. Have fun!! : }

What kind of shoes are popular for women and teegnage girls in Sweden?

Q. What is popular in the winter and in the summer?

A. Here is a link to a shoe store in Sweden, even if you can't read Swedish it's easy enough to browse the tabs.
http://dinsko.se/Shop-online/Dam

And you can look at what people in Sweden are wearing here:
http://lookbook.nu/looks#countries/sweden/sort/newest/time/this-month

The styles change every season. People tend to be casual during the day and dress up if they're going out at night. Sneakers are very common in summer (Converse, Adidas, Puma, all the usuals) as well as ballerina slippers and sandals (last year it was the strappy gladiator type). Waterproof boots are sort of a necessity in winter, you'll see very trendy ones in major cities but in rural areas they're often practical rubber ones like wellies. Right now a lot of girls are wearing ankle boots and wedges, some of them open toe. I've also seen a lot of loafers lately.

What style of shoes to wear with skinny jeans when I have big feet?
Q. I love wearing pointy toed shoes for work which is fine as I wear corporate pants and my feet don't look as massive when I wear them like that but I like wearing skinny jeans too, what style of shoes would look okay when I have big feet with the skinny jeans? Not thongs/flip flops though..

A. Flats will make your feet look longer, so they aren't the best choice. Apply the same concept that you use with dress pants to your casual pants: A higher heel will visually shorten the foot. Wedge heels are big this spring and summer and cool canvas and fabric wedges come in a rainbow of colors and prints. You can get them from ultra high four inches to more casual lower heeled versions. Here are a couple of options that will work: http://www.aldoshoes.com/ca-eng/women/sandals/wedges/95056030-glynis/37 is a nice lower heeled wedge. http://www.aldoshoes.com/ca-eng/women/sandals/wedges/93976140-stralsund/46 these are a bit dressier and will also work with summer skirts and sun dresses. http://www.aldoshoes.com/ca-eng/women/sandals/wedges/93991500-celenia/32 a basic canvas wedge like this can go with almost everything. http://www.callitspring.com/ca-eng/women/sandals/wedges/93522480-stolarik/53 this is a sky high floral wedge that's very trendy and this canvas one: http://www.callitspring.com/ca-eng/women/sandals/wedges/94812367-marceli/17 has a very different shape to the heel part of the wedge. There's lots of wedges in stores, all you need to do is find the ones you like the best.

What dress could compliment my long-torsoed figure?

Q. I'm having a little trouble finding a dress for the upcoming winter formal dance at my high school. I have a long torso, so it's hard to find a dress that doesn't make my legs look like stubs. I also have a curvy figure (skinny stomach, bigger chest and butt), so wearing an a-line dress just makes my butt stick out and draws more attention to my long torso.

What cut would look best on me? (I'm about 5'4").

Any suggestions would be awesome!

A. Try dresses with this type of shape:
http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/angles-of-mine-dress
http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/swoon-enough-dress

Here are just some general tips for girls with long torsos:
Try to elongate your legs

The longer your legs look, the less the observing eye will see any discrepancy or imbalance between legs and torso. Good bets include sporting short hemlines, wearing shoes and tights in the same color range, wearing pants and shoes/boots in the same color range, and trying out a few pairs of platform shoes.

Investigate high waists

High-waisted pants and skirts are an amazing tool for the long-of-torso. Since they end well above your true, natural waistline, they create visual balance along your midsection. Luckily, high waists have been trendy for a couple of years now, so they shouldn’t be too hard to locate!

Belt high, belt wide

Empire waisted dresses and tops are fabulous bets, but you can belt shirts and dresses on your own, too. And when you belt, belt high. You may be belting above the smallest part of your waist/torso, but in doing so, you’ll balance all that length. Utilizing a wide belt will help, too, since skinny belts might actually make your torso look yet longer. The width of the belt will break things up more gracefully. (If you’re a petite woman with a long torso, either stick to belting high or experiment with medium-width belts.)

Anyone know where I can find women's narrow shoes?
Q. Does anyone know of a website where I can find cute, trendy narrow shoes? I've looked at several sites but the only ones I can find are either very old looking or are birkenstocks (ewww!) All the regular size shoes I've tried in a 5 are too wide and gap at the sides.I think I need a size 5AA (narrow). Too small to find in stores. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A. Why don't you try Nordstroms.com or go to a nearest Nordstrom and have the sales people bring you a pair of shoes that you like in narrow or wide, whichever you need. Most the time they are really good with having different widths for their customers! If not, try the brand "Stuart Witzman" He has very cute but narrow shoes, although they are on the pricier side!

Where can i find stylish womans shoes in a size 12?

Q. i actually wear a 12.5 but can fit a size twelve, i am 22 and like to dress girly so i like trendy boots and heels (no converse or vans i have a closet full of these brands) i also don't want shoes that my granmother would wear to church. 12 is the absolute smallest I can fit, there is no way i could "squeeze in" to an eleven. please don't list a company unless you're SURE they carry size 12. (alot of places advertise extended sizes but only go up to 11) thank you for your suggestions!!!

A. Size 11 here! barefoot tess has lot of trendy shoes and carry extended sizes for brands like jeffrey campbell and dolce vita . Unfortunately they don't have a lot of 12.5 shoes but they have some really cute size 12's and 13's. Shoes.com carries some nice things too.

How do trendy and young French women typically dress?

Q. Just curious and wondering if it's any better than the majority of the people dress in the U.S.

A. I read a book that said the French love to dress their best, not necessarily expensive. It said that they aren't the tee shirt and gym shoes type like we typically are. They maintain a clean look even when "hanging out" somewhere casual, think the preppy end of H & M line or Burberry. And the main thing is they are confident in whatever they wear, making sure to wear what makes them feel extra good about themselves, and that's what shows.
As far as naming specific brands I can't say, but it seems they like good quality clothes that last.

What is the one thing every fashion foward girl should have in her closet?
Q. What do you think every young (teenage-20s) girl should have in her closet? Ex. White shirt, black bag, pair of flats...
No more Uggs please! i hate those shoes.

A. As a woman in my early 20s, I feel that I need classy pieces that transcend seasons and stay classic forever.
For example, button-down shirts/blouses, jeans that aren't too trendy (by that, I mean classic cuts and styles), trousers that are straight leg in neutral colors (black, gray, tan, brown, even some pinstriped), fitted blazers and other structured jackets, pencil skirts, a-line skirts, 3/4 length sleeved tops (can be v-necked, wrap tops, etc), wrap dresses, pea coats or trenches.

Accessories are where you can have inexpensive fun with chunky, long, beaded necklaces, dangley earrings, scarves, belts, etc.

Also, be aware when choosing color. Bright colors are great, but sometimes jewel-toned shades are more sophisticated. Having said that, color can be great to add some flair to an otherwise neutral and drab wardrobe.
Fit is important. In a classic look, it seems that nothing is ever too tight or baggy.

As for shoes, I love flats, but I also feel that having at least 1-2 pairs of pumps (like in a neutral color, black or brown) is important. Also, boots are great for fall and winter whether they're flat or heeled. If you love color, invest in some bright shoes, such as a pair of red pumps. It can be a great signature look IF that's your kind of thing.

Having said all that, you can easily fit trendy pieces from every season into that.

Where do you buy trendy juniors clothing for tall, athletic girls?

Q. Height is 5'11", Shoe size is 11, Weight is 140-145, Thighs are strong & muscular (hard to find skinny jeans). Inseam is 35 inches. Tiny waist.

Where might a teen go for clothing with this build?

A. I visited Forever 21 for the first time this past weekend; at the location I went to, they had a large sale room organized by small, medium, and large sizes (I'm sure you can find large sizes around the store as well). The large sizes were not plus sizes per se, but were made for a taller, larger built girl. Their clothes are very cute and inexpensive; good luck shopping! <3

What are the best cheap online clothing stores for trendy fashion?

Where to buy designer clothes in English stores?

Q. I know of Harvey Nichols, but which other shops sell expensive handbags (YSL, Chloe, Marc Jacobs etc), shoes (Jimmy Choo, Laboutin and Manalos), and generally expensive clothes and accessories?

Ideally in locations such as Sheffield, Nottingham, Leeds, Lincoln or London.

Thanks for you help! x

A. Hey ;)

In Central London the actual Chloe shop is there in Sloane Street. Also in London you sometimes find their range in Harrod's (Brompton Road, Knightsbridge) and Selfridges (in Oxford Street). You can also buy from there online at http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/Designers/Chloe. It doesn't look like they offically sell anywhere else apart from in Harvey Nichols in Leeds (which you obviously already know).

Jimmy Choo also sell their range in their shop in London, also in Selfridges and Harrod's.

Your best bet, if you can be bothered to travel all that way, is to go to London and go in Selfridges or Harrod's or Harvey Nichols..

GAH http://bluefly.com/ do sell some really nice dresses but they don't ship to the UK :[ so that's not much help..

AHA! I found some english sites.. (but I'd advise you to check authenticity of all of these sites)

Why is the tattoo'd unkempt prison look so trendy?
Q. If current fashion were a class war, it's pretty apparent who is winning... Why is this? Lately, I see so many classy, attractive women with guys that look like they couldn't find their way out of a cardboard box... It's disturbing. It seems very primal - painfully barbaric... What happened to appreciating guys that dare to dream - guys that want to do something with their lives - guys that are educated, etc... You could say that I'm rushing to conclusions by judging people on outside appearances - but the way you choose to dress and act says a lot about who you are... I can't think of a single person who had a tattoo when I was in high school - now it seems like everyone has at least one...
It's not just tattoos - it's the whole baggy pants, spiked this and that, tattoo'd that, etc. It's a bit overwhelming after a while...

A. I understand and sympathize with your frustration. Be patient; smart women know the value of a man with class, intelligence, and ambition, and by their early twenties, when women start looking around for a man to be their life partner and father their children, they're usually really not interested in the "bad boy" look.

However, to answer the bigger question, the elite have always turned to the underclass for fashion guidance. In ancient Rome, the Empress Messalina thought it was amusing to dress up like a prostitute. (By law, prostitutes had to wear blonde wigs; it was a way of forcing them to identify themselves as not respectable.)

The super-wealthy of France in the time of Queen Marie Antoinette thought it was clever to dress like poor peasant women (in very fancy versions of peasant clothing) and go off and have picnics in the fields.

In the U.S., fashion in music, slang, and clothing has always taken inspiration from the underclass (the "criminal" class, the very poor, or oppressed racial & ethnic minorities) because the fashions of these groups have always been seen as "edgy" -- novel, new, exciting, different. For instance, black jazz was popularized by whites who felt they were being very daring by visiting black clubs.

All this edginess, newness, and daring-ness eventually adds up to being fashionable or even glamorous. The same thing happened when Elvis dared to adopt black performance style in his singing (in his dancing and some of his phrasing).

The "bad boy" look has always been exciting, and the movies (see James Dean or Marlon Brando) and later, TV, really promoted this. American culture loves the idea of the wild guy, the loner, the rule-breaker (see any Bruce Willis movie).

So, today's gangsta fashions are just an extension of that. Once, just wearing jeans meant you were a "bad boy," an admirabe rebel (or it meant you were dirt-poor and couldn't afford anything else). Now, people mimic the prison look: clothes which don't fit, shoes with the laces missing.

Tattoos are another story. There are a million reasons for people to get tattoos: to bond during military service or sports, for religious or cultural reasons, and so on. However, the fashion of covering yourself with tattoos in OUR time seems to me to be based on a couple of trends:
-- looking like you're jailin' -- that is, that you're such a bad bad boy you've been to prison
-- in women, rebelling a little against old standards of beauty. Supermodels, who have NO independence about how they dare to look, started the trend by getting ankle tattoos about fifteen or twenty years ago. Women from economic classes that traditionally did not get tattoos took this as permission, and got tattoos to show that they have a wild side
-- a strong rejection of mainstream values by Generation X and the generation since them; a way of rebelling against the mainstream Republican-and-Religion conservative style being enforced by the elite from about 1985 on up to the present.
-- peer pressure

You said, "the way you choose to dress and act says a lot about who you are... " -- yes, you're right, but sometimes, all it says is, "I haven't grown up yet and I'm desperate to look like all the cool kids my age and NOT look like my parents."

It might get you punched out, but aren't you ever tempted to say to one of these mismatched couples, "Hey, guy, she looks like a million bucks and you look like last week's laundry. Couldn't you dress up for her just a little? You look like her lawn man, not her date." Woo-hoo!! :)

What are some good shoes for work?

Q. I work in a trendy retail store and am constantly on my feet. I'm not allowed to wear any athletic shoe or sandals. My feet hurt after work and I think it's time I get some good shoes. I have heard Toms are good. I don't want to spend anymore that $50. I am a 17 year old girl. I need trendy but most importantly comfy! Thankyou! :)

A. You get what you pay for. I also work retail, and have learned that a good shoe is so worth the money. I live in my J.Crew cece ballet flats. Personally, I would avoid TOMS, especially if your store is higher end or trendy. They just aren't very professional or cute IMO.
OK shoes in your budget:

Pictures from way back when, why did they look different?
Q. I was just looking at some old pictures of my mother when she was young (back in the early 40's). People looked different back then. I know it could be their clothes, etc. I look at her today and she looks like the present time.

Why do you think people look different in their generation but when they reach today's time they don't look different anymore? I am focusing on the face and nothing else. So hard for me to explain, maybe you will know what I mean.

A. I remember seeing a picture of a friend of mine, when she was a young
teenager. She wore dark red lipstick and a very grown up hairstyle
and she didn't pluck her brows then. And she looked at 15 older than
she did at 26. I remember pictures of my mom and aunts when they
were teens, and they all looked mid 30's when they were only in their
mid teens. They were all chunkier, had thick bushy hair and curly, and
wore anklets with thick ankles. Their clothes were more loose and
not form fitting. They wore bulky coats and clunky shoes and lace up
oxfords in high school. They wore dark lipstick and blush and had
thicker brows also. It was a new trendy look that was preceded by
the flat wavy hair styles of the 30's. And every young woman wore more make up or darker toned makeup than they wear today. The makeup alone can change someone from a more light and natural shade to a harsher darker coloring. And the hair style can make all the difference in the world as someone gets older. Colors of clothes
changed along with the cut or curve of a style. Dark and drab colors
were more predominant in the 40's and reflects the dreary years of
the war going on. I look back and remember a downtown rush hour
with people in dark clothes. And pictures taken then were in black
and white. And to me as a child, I saw things in a black and white
world most of the time. People didn't wear the bright colors of today,
because they weren't available to technology. They didn't have the
dyes for one thing that we have available today, nor the synthetics
that were developed after I was young. People also had less hanging
in their small closets than they do today. Many had to wear the
same dresses as they did in the summer. You never saw an average
person being a clothes horse back when. Clothes were more secon-
ary in importance than they are today. People were more frugal, and
they put their extra money in a bank. There were no credit cards
to buy on whims, or keeping up with new styles and fads. Everyone
tended to make do. And if women did splurge, it was on a new hat,
or a new pair of shoes. Those two things, could update a wardrobe.
I remember how few clothes hung in my parents' closet. One evening
dress for going out dancing, one fur coat, a couple of skirts and
blouses and winter wear was folded in a drawer along with under-
wear and socks and sweaters. My dad had two suits and a couple pair
of slacks and a few dress shirts. His casual wear was limited to
some light blue khaki pants and a few short sleeved shirts. And since
there was only one closet it all was mashed together. It wasn't until
we moved to a larger house with a double sized closets, that more
clothes were added. And there were built in drawers inside the
closet for folded things.
My mother looked younger to me growing up, than she did as a
teenager. Just due to a changed shorter hair style and she stopped
perming her hair and began coloring it. She changed with the times
to different makeup that was more flattering. And her clothes followed
the trends but yet she didn't by fadish things. She was practical and
bought things to last. I think most people had that same mind set.
Since they were products of the Great Depression and WWII.

Why do people not like to socialise with me?

Q. Hi,

Im a nerdy 16 year old with average looks and glasses. Im a bit shy and quiet. However Im not the worst case. I have different interests from other kids. I never get invited to socials or parties. What can I do to change this.

Thanks

A. What does nerdy mean? The classic look that includes pocket protector, incredibly ugly and ill fitting cloths - heavy on the plaid, greasy Einsteinian hair, and - the cream de la cream - toilet paper trailing from a shoe. What do these mean about a person? What they mean is the person is in a state of learned helplessness in terms of social approval. Its awfully easy to comb and wash your hair and pull the toilet paper from the bottom of your shoe. But why bother the person knows that wont make any difference because the tougher skills of social interaction aren't there.

Your first obvious problem is that you think your problems have to do with rather superficial things about you. They are much more likely in the realm of skills you lack. Shy quite people can be very popular if they know the art of being approachable. When others approach you what do they get? The only clue you have given to that is the comment about different interests. High school, a socially awkward, problematic, and hostile environment for many reasons but on of the big ones is the identity crisis. Everyone is defining themselves and often in rather shallow terms of narrow interests. This age is characterized by hostility to anything that threatens the emerging self identity. At the same time young people are yearning for others who share their interests to bolster their own sense of identity and belonging. This can lead to activities comparable to missionary proselytizing and crusades/jehads.

What to do:

Ask yourself: How can I be more approachable? Open postures, friendly expressions and yes even grooming are important here. Now with grooming it is not nearly as important that you look trendy as you don't stink and show an attention to detail. If you look unusual but clearly you spent some effort looking that way it comes off as interesting.

Then ask yourself: How can I reward others for approaching me? Do I get uncomfortable and make them uncomfortable? Do I ask about them and show interest in what they are interested in? Don't ask if they have a collection of microscope slides right off. It is rude to ask people to rule themselves out as your friends first thing. You may be yearning for some one to share your fascination for 100 year old electrical motors and ham radio but start out with the most likely common interests and try not to show disappointment if they say no about something. Try to show interest in what they are interested in. You want to get invited to parties? This means that you need to do well at the acquaintance level. Patronize the narcissistic jocks you don't need them to be your BFF's but you do want them to enjoy your passing company enough to invite you to the party. Everyone's favorite subject is - themselves.

There are times to be rude. It is important to demand respect. When disrespected show fierce defense of your own pride. Show others you are worth respect because you respect yourself. Demand apologize and accept them when offered. It backfires every time to be so desperate for the approval of others that you will put up with abuse in hopes of acceptance. No - you don't have to fight back physically simply show disdain and withhold your own affection until they show respect. Demanding apologies is an invitation to repair a relationship. Do so strongly but with a measure of kindness. Everyone wipes their feet on doormats and leaves them outside for the party.

Looking for a good brand of hiking shoes...any recommendations?
Q. Please reply only if you know from experience...I am not looking for something trendy. I am looking for something durable, waterproof, and that can withstand (and keep me from falling) rocks, eroded hills/mountains, mud, etc. Thanks for any advice!

A. I do a lot of hiking and backpacking. I have tried many different hiking boots over the years including Asolo, Danner, Merrell and HiTech without finding that perfect pair. My biggest complaints are that many were too narrow and nearly all would lose their tread or have holes worn in the sides or toe within a year.

Last year after hearing rave-reviews from friends who had them, I bought a pair of REI Leather Monarch hiking-boots (waterproof Gore-Tex version) and these have been a great pair of boots - by the far the best that I have ever had. I understand that the shoe is actually built by Raichle (a hiking boot company in Europe) and sold under the REI brand.

They are very comfortable, provide good ankle-support and have held up extremely well. I have put over 400 hundred miles on them in the last year and a half (including a 100 mile trip on Mount Rainier's Wonderland Trail and two trips to the bottom of the Grand Canyon) and they are still going strong. Perhaps the thing that I am most impressed with are the Vibram rubber soles - they still have excellent tread on them. Every other boot I have had before needed to be re-soled after about 300 miles (especially Asolo boots). I have also heard good things about Vasque, but have never owned a pair.

That being said, boots are one of the most personal hiking items and what is perfect for one person may be terrible for somebody else. Certain brands seem to be better for certain shapes of feet. While finding a reliable well-made brand is important, it is even more important that the boots fit and feel comfortable. If the shoe that fits best and feels right is some low-cost no-name brand that no else likes - go with it (and if they wear out quickly, buy an extra pair with the money you save :) ).

Go into a hiking shop and try on a number of different brands and spend a little time walking around the store in each (and going up and down the little fake slopes that many have). Wear whatever socks you would normally wear while hiking and try to go at the end of the day when your feet are somewhat more swollen and expanded than at any other time of the day. You want a snug fit at the heel, but wiggle room for the toes.

If you have an REI store near you, I have found that their salespeople (most of whom are hikers and campers) are more knowledgable and helpful than if you were to go to a shoe store or sporting goods store.

How is the shopping like in Budapest, Hungary?

Q. What is the shopping like? Cheap or expensive? Nice range of stuff to buy? What are they known for to buy over there? I am going soon and I would also like to know what the country is known for.
Thanks

A. The shopping is allot better then it used to be years ago, you can find almost everything now in Hungary just like in western Europe.
The main thing I see though is you will be paying a premium for some items, more then double the price of in the US.
Luxury makeup lines are more then double in cos and still over priced.t and clothing is either pricey or made very cheaply
They have H&M, Zara and such common European lines as well as high end designer shops.
The average clothing is rather cheaply made but mostly copies of higher end items.
Men's shoes seem like a good deal, they have many trendy styles for less then in the US.
I used to purchase many men's clothing items for my son who was in his 20-30's.
Found nice styles that would of been more expensive in the US.
Women's wear isn't such a good deal there.
They are known for the Tokay wines and paprika and their goose liver pate.
Have fun, there are many malls there now and if you look around you may find something iteresting.

Whats a good consignment shop to sell clothes to?
Q. So i want to get rid of a bunch of clothes that i never wear, but i want to get some money for it since theres so much im getting rid of. I live in Rochester, NY, and i dont want to go to Platos Closet because you get practically nothing for the clothes. So anyone have suggestions to a consignment shop in Rochester that gives you a decent amount of money for your clothes? And I'd like to point out, yes i could donate, but ive donated clothes many times and I'd to get some money back this time for new clothes. I am not greedy. Suggestions??
