Can someone please help me with an outfit?

Q. Hi! i am going to a college for a field trip and i want to look pretty on that field trip idk why but can someone help me?

A. You can look pretty but field tripos and college are usually more casual so reserve anything fancy like heels or dressy dresses for dates, evening outs and parties.

What kind of outfits really depends on your style though but here are some ideas:

A common outfit - casual by stylish:
# Skinny/Straight jeans tucked into tall boots (or ankle booties) worn a loose tunic top or button-up & cardigan/blazer/bomber jacket with minimal accessories like stud earrings & a bracelet

Feminine but casual Outfit
# Dress down a flowy skirt with opaque tights, add dolly flats (or something similare) and a nice t-shirt or knit top. Throw on a cardigan/bomber jacket or cardigan.

If you prefer going more casual like hoodies.
# Wear the hoodie a casual but pretty top (e.g. a jersey wrap top or white cotton collar blouse) and nice jeans or slacks with ballerina flats

# Wear your favorite sneakers with cuffed shorts shorts, add tights if its still chilly outside and a nice top with cardigan/blazer or bomber jacket.

# Look girly in a basic t-shirt with a trendy skirt, (tights), blazer/cardigan & flats or boots (ankle booties with short skirt, tall boots with any skirt).
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9jH4TzRdRU/Tx4QtkjK7aI/AAAAAAAAD9c/hLwY0-PeFS0/s1600/DSC_0050.JPG
# or A nice long top/tunic (upper thigh) with leggings/jeggings & flats or boots + a jacket
http://lipshipsandfashiontips.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/leggings-2.jpg

For a more proffessional look which I personally wear are wearing the clothes women wear to office (either casual or formal ones) seperatly and dress them down.
# Darkwash Jeans with a Blouse/Knit top or Button up, Blazer & Flats
http://images3.chictopia.com/photos/mowmigaba/4830490344/black-h-m-shoes-red-sheinside-jacket-black-etorba-bag.jpg
# Knee lenght pencil skirt with tights & flat tall boots and a button up with a cardigan or leather jacket
# Sheath or Any not-to-fancy Dress with tights, Cardigan & Flats.
http://www.glamcheck.com/archive/images/stories/stories/fashion-tips/CLOTHING-GUIDE/Dresses-for-Women/Dresses-for-Women-Sheath-Dress/Dresses-for-Women-Sheath-Dress-Silhouette.jpg

Phew, I could rabble on outfit ideas forever but I hope these outfits will spark some ideas.
Most of outfits are low-key but nor too casual but not dressy at the same time. Some of the outfits has a tailored proffessional vibe but they are not too much for college. The only bad things to some people is that you can come off mature which can be either a bad or good thing depending on your perspective. If you dont have any problem with a lady-like classy look then none of the outfits would be bad!
I wear to a school similare to college and these are things I wear.

Anyway, hope it helped!

Has anyone made money on ebay?
Q. basically, what i want to do is buy quality clothes and shoes from thrift stores and resell them on ebay. aftering shipping and fees, it would appear at first glance to not be that profitable. has anyone tried doing this?

A. I've been doing exactly that part-time since March 2011, and by January 2012 I had made PowerSeller and Top-Rated Seller. There's an entire group of people on the eBay discussion boards (clothing category) who do this, many full-time.

It's not a get-rich-quick scheme, but if you are dedicated to it and have good thrift stores in your area, it is a get-rich-slow scheme. You have to come up with what works for you. I tend to sell what I personally like, which is classic styles in larger women's sizes (12 to 3X). Some sellers have good luck with expensive name brands, trendy teens' jeans and sneakers, baby clothes, or whatever. Good luck!

How do I dress more high fashion?

Q. I want to start dressing nicer and looking more high fashion/trendy. Opposed to wearing jeans and Hollister/Abercrombie baby dolls with sperrys, or the occasional cardiagan, and t shirts.

How would I go about doing this? What kind of things should I wear, outfits would be nice. I will shop anywhere.

A. The easiest and most impactful place to start is with your shoes. Heels, heels, heels and more heels. Skinny jeans go from casual to high fashion instantly with the simple addition of heels.

What are the best cheap online clothing stores for trendy fashion?
Q. I'm 19, 5'8" and a size 4-6, I really need to update my wardrobe, but I don't have a ton of cash since I'm in college, what are good sites?

What to wear at the office with a pinstripe suit?

Q. I like dark grey suits with white vertical pinstripes for business wear. I have also worn solid dark blue ones for variety, but I like grey ones better. White broadcloth shirts are most formal, but there may be alternatives that are still sober and dignified. What colors and patterns of shirts and ties do you suggest for my formal business look? How about shoes? For bonus points, what brands and models of watches would you wear with such a business ensemble? It seems that magazines have recommended many tres gauche combos, and celebrities have worn many tasteless ones, so people are confused about proper dress now. Some people who have answered questions in this category have good taste, but some do not.
Doesn't anyone know something about proper dress for business? Surely someone works in a proper and conservative office as I have. I see some people recommending garish and tasteless ensembles, somewhat along the lines of stuff Woody Allen once wore to be ridiculous, but now, other celebrities wear worse stuff and don't know or don't care if it is tasteless.
I want to see what people say about watches. For business, Simple is best, so "Cellinis' are the Rolexes proper to wear with suits. I saw one recently for $3650. My basic dress watches by Cartier, Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe cost $10,700 to $15,000 now. I have 2 Rolex sports watches. The gold bracelet "OP Datejust" cost $13,150 in 1994. My Breguet "Marine" cost $29,500. The most complicated Rolex is a "Cosmograph Daytona" chronograph. I think a new on in gold costs $19,450. The ultimate single complication is chimes, e.g, a $507,000 Vacheron Constantin "30010" platinum skeleton minute repeater. I have written seeral books about watches. I am working on the 4th edition of "THE COSTLIEST WATCH BRANDS". Rolex places 41st now. In earlier editions, it was 18th to 24th. Breguet was costliest with Patek philippe 2nd, Vacheron constantin 3rd and A. Lange & Sohne 4th. A new brand Richard Mille wins now.
My coloring shows my 2 Cherokee grandmothers, i.e black hair with red highlights (some grey around the ears since age 17), ruddy bronze tanned skin plus brown eyes. when i was age 10, we went to a Cherokee village at the foot of the Smoky mountains. The Indians nearly kept me. Dad was amused. They didn't notice my siblings who have olive skins and medium brown hair. I look Cherokee, but they do not.

A. *laugh*

Ok.. first off, dark grey and white is pretty neutral as it can get. You could pretty much go for most colours, but I'd suggest lighter colours rather than the medim>dark colors. Why? because medium shades might be too intense against the contrast of the dark suit, and dark colored shirts will blend in too much... might make you look too .. dull.

Now, it depends on your skintone what colors look best on you. If you're light skinned, there are certain shades that will bring out your coloring, versus if you were dark or olive skinned. Without your notes on coloring, I can't really suggest any colours or any shades of colors... (example: yellows might make olive skin look too strange and dull, but the light blues/greens will bring olive skintones out) That's not a hard and fast rule because a very pale shade of yellow might look stunning against you, just not a green-yellow or a blue-yellow.. it's all relative in how the light hits your skin and bounces off the suit.

As for shirts/ties.. the general rule is that if your shirt is busy or bright, go for a neutral tie.

example: pinstriped suit, a light green shirt with faint white checks in it (not plaid..please), means you wear a tie that's a light grey/silver to pick up the white in the pinstripe, or even have a tie that's a mix of greens and silvers or a pattern to really bring out the shirt. You can go kind of crazy in terms of slick patterns with the ties (checks, stripes, light dots), but nothing like saxophones or weird babies on the front please... Spend up to about $100/tie, in a neutral silver or offsilver colour and it'll go with pretty much any shirt/suit combo.

As for shoes, if you have cash to blow, go to a high end store like Holt Renfrew in Toronto (depending on where you are, ask a woman..) and get a black and a brown pair of shoes, in real leather that are comfortable, and the same height (so that your pants will hang at the same height each time)

THen you'll need to get your pinstriped suit tailored to fit you perfectly, and to get the tailor to put a proper break in your pants so that they sit well over your new shoes. I like the Gucci loafers for men... if you can't afford high end, go to a place like a department store, or Aldos, or any place that sells trendy but decently done shoes.

The best watch? Rolex of course. Then Gucci or Prada. If you can't afford that, you could even go to Walmart and pick out a gorgeous smoked-grey face watch with a clean, silver band that would look great with your grey pinstriped suit. You can also try Fossil watches for a lower-end alternative that will last almost forever.

Q. I'm going to my friends wedding this Saturday and do not know what kind of dress shoes or sandals to wear that day.

Here is the dress:

Links of dress shoes or sandals from target or payless in wide will help out a lot and thank you to everyone who helps out with this one.

10. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-merona-etha-cork-low-wedge-sandal-white/-/A-14385062#prodSlot=medium_3_39

there are plenty but, the basic guideline would be to go for shoe colours that are in the dress such as white or tan/beige/nude or pale yellow or pale green. in this case, avoid black as it would look a tad bit awkward with this dress.

What are the latest teen trends for boys?
Q. I'm not trying to follow trends or anything, it's just we have to search up the latest teen trends as part of our 5 week introduction to textiles at school. We have these introductions to help see what electives we choose at the end of the year.

Are these boots still in?

Q. http://www.aldoshoes.com/us/women/boots/ankle-boots/79990747-swendsen/94

Cause I bought them for 100$ in Malaysia and I'm scared it won't be in for so long, means I wasted my money on something I wouldn't wear alot. Are they still in? When will they die? Are they nice? Any tips?

A. They're totally in.
Ankle boots are trendy this season. For the fashion shows i've seen for Spring Summer 2011 womanswear, a lot of designers are going lighter and colorful. Chanel did a platform sandal, that a lot of people weren't to fond over, but who knows it could be the new celine platforms.
I saw a lot of designers swapping out heels for flats.

Right now, these boots are great for fall/winter. You can wear it with mini skirts, a dress, jeggings, jeans, etc., but for spring, things are getting more softer and these boots seemed to be harsher.
So you can totally wear it this season.

I think the boots are pretty chic.

Thoughts about the woman pulled off the South West Airlines Flight?

Q. I'm curious to hear opinions of the young lady who was pulled off the SouthWest Airlines flight because her outfit was too revealing. The pictures of her, wearing her skirt and top were I thought not out of the norm, she was tall, blonde and a bit busty but nothing at all revearling about her top and her skirt was low to mid thigh. They actually showed some of the older SW Airline flight attendents from the 70's wearing hot pants on CNN today. Curious to hear opinions, because this woman was dressed nicely and I have seen some pretty poorly dressed people not get a second look. Think that jealously had anything to do with it?
I only saw the picture of her that was shown on the media. She looks fine in it and didn't have a tank top on, she had a top and sweater. My understanding was that it was a female passenger who complained after the boarded the plane and that she was given a blanket to cover herself after getting back on.

A. I offer 2 opinions on the topic of personal appearance in public places -

1. Airlines (Buses, Cruise ships, Railroads, etc) have the right to demand certain standards of conduct (or appearance)of passengers, and sometimes enforce that right when passengers or the airline would be harmed. In this case, however, I have heard that another passenger complained to the airline, and caused this situation to arise.
I have no idea what gives one passenger the right to judge the lady's clothing, this seems to be hypocritical and surely could have been resolved by moving the complaining passenger to a seat out of view of the young lady, and offering a blindfold to the complaining passenger.
Since the airline crew now had to intervene quickly, in order to let the flight take off on time, and keep the peace, perhaps it was easiest at the moment to do what SW did, right or wrong. On the other hand (with my perfect hindsight), if I were the air crew, I would have told BOTH passengers to get off and let them battle it out in court for being involved in a dispute of a nature unable to be resolved in a timely manner.

Opinion #2: On personal pride of appearance AND tolerance (or lack of tolerance), what ever happened to these things?
It used to be that far fewer people (slobs, etc) went out in public place dressed badly. I am not talking about dressing in a unique, trendy way, but plain out wearing ragged, dirty smelly clothing, etc. I once sat (in first class cabin, Dallas to London) way too close to a young couple and baby, dressed in worn-out jeans, tattered plain white-T shirts, cheap shower shoes, etc and the toddler wearing only a diaper and some kind of sleeping clothes, barely enough to keep it from catching cold. Granted that your clothing choices can be limited by your income and budget, but if you have the means to fly in first-class cabin to London, surely you could afford to dress better than that? On tolerance, YES, I thought to myself that if I had the power, I would tell that couple to dress more appropriately for the occasion, but of course I realized that I do NOT have that power, so I just kept my mouth shut, put on my headset, listened to the music, and enjoyed the flight.

Ok, open for debate, I would like to read your comments, anyone?

What should I wear to a formal wedding? Where is a great place to buy a classy yet sexy dress?
Q. I have never attended a wedding that is so elegant and formal before. I would like to look classy as well as sexy. I was thinking about a black dress with pearls and open toe heals. Any suggestions? By the way I'm 30 years old and like to be trendy :)

A. Wedding ettiquette is very tricky. Unless the wedding is after 6pm, Black is VERY inappropriate. Remember - this is the brides day, not yours. Black at the wedding can be taken to mean you disapprove of the match and are being subtle. Even for an evening wedding, I've find a jewel tone that looks good with your skin tone.

Go to any High end department store, like Macy's or Saks or Nordie's. They will have someone who can help you pick out the perfect dress. Remember to tall them the time of the wedding and that it is formal. Also mention if it's in a garden of a church or someone's house - that makes a difference.

My final suggestion is that if you want sexy, go ultra feminine. Gauzy, flowing materials with a fairly form fitting cut - spaghetti straps or strapless. Full length. Wear comfortable shoes - hopefully you'll be dancing till dawn with a handsome fellow party goer! Hair up and light and wispy. light make up. Understate - go girl next door. You want people to think your not really trying because it's curteous to your friend to let her be the most beautiful woman in the room. Don't try to detract fromt he wedding party.

Back-to-school Trends for Fall 2011?

Q. Hi! Ok so I'm going back to school in 2 weeks, and I want to get unique clothes that are me but still trendy...I'm into indie/preppy kinda clothes. Do you guys have any idea where I could shop for these and any essentials I should buy...?
I was thinking WetSeal and Rue21. Also shoes! I like Sperry Top siders...
Also don't say Forever21 bc everyone shops there and that makes it boring.
Thanks so much!(:

A. Fringe (really into style at the moment.)
Off-shoulder/baggy clothing.
Cropped pants.
Sandals.
Cardigans (quarter sleeve)
Long necklaces/thick bracelets.
Rompers.
Off shoulder sweatshirts.

Spring trends for 2011? Need SERIOUS fashion help!?
Q. Hey y'all.

So basically, I'm a sweat pants and sweat shirt type of gal. I kind of fell into the winter blues this year, which naturally meant me slumming it out at school in messy sweats every day. I don't think there's anything wrong with sweats (at all) but when it becomes an everyday thing (and when I'm even wearing stained ones) it kind of becomes problematic. I also gained a little bit of weight this winter which also makes me want to hide away in sweats (for lack of a less dramatic term).

It's starting to warm up a little bit again and I'm really wanting to look cute for the 2011 spring and summer! I'm saving up a little bit from my job so I can afford a little bit more because I am in SERIOUS need of new clothes; most of mine are ripped, stained, stretched, or just way to old and worn out. I have enough to pretty much buy the spring essentials, but I was just wondering about you would recommend me to buy for this new year.

Please provide really detailed examples and if you'd like to (I'd love you for it), post links of things you think are cute or that I should add to my closet. I'm basically fashion challenged so post anything you think is cute AND COMFORTABLE. :) Comfort is key for me!
And listen ... any input is greatly appreciated ... anything at all!!

Thanks so much in advance!
Sorry for the grammar mistakes ... I just noticed a bunch of them. Oops!

and THANKS so much for the answers so far.

A. First off, stock up on tons of basics. It's different for every girl, but they should just be pieces that you wear A LOT (jeans, shirts, etc.) and that fit your personal style the best. They should also be pieces that you can wear throughout the seasons, winter, spring, summer. Since you're going to be wearing these a lot, splurge more on basics. The more basics you have, the more options. For example, some of my basics are:

Blazers
White oxfords or button downs
Tights in tons of patterns and colors
Slouchy cardigans
A pair of HIGH heels
Tons of vintage jewelry
A-line skirts (I'm short and petite)
A leather handbag

This way, you won't need to purchase a completely new wardrobe. Just mix in the basics you have with your trendier and warmer pieces. Since it's spring, instead of completely renovating my wardrobe, I only need to buy several things like linen shorts, floral dresses, etc. In the long term, it will save you a LOT of money. And when Fall comes around use the same basics to match with newer purchases.

That's why it's best to spend more money on things you wear a lot. I always buy trendier pieces at cheap stores like Forever 21 because they have SO many styles and whatnot at good prices.e As for my basics, I get them high-end at places like Comme des Garcons, Opening Ceremony, or Barneys. It can be expensive but since they have amazing sales on good basic items, I don't need to buy too many things. As for shoes, I always splurge on these. After all, you're going to be walking around in them all day. Instead of concentrating on quantity, focus on QUALITY. My basics have lasted me for years since I get them cleaned seasonally. Take care of your clothes and they take care of you.

Hope I helped!

Help me fashionably pack for 4 months?

Q. So this a weird question, I am going for 4 months, to Paris and Dubai. Two cities where i want to look the best and most fashionable i can. What I am kind of asking for is suggestions of must haves for spring/summer 2013.
Guys i've been to dubai before, it's not really conservative for foreigners, and it's not like I'm planning on walking around in a bikini! I am asking about trends and fashion essentials in your opinion. I don't know but 4 months is scary to pack!

A. I would take maxi dresses (not low cut) for Dubai with coordinating cropped jackets. The big hotels in Dubai are somewhat conservative but if you want to go to a marketplace, it is much more conservative.

For Paris, you need neutral pants with cute tops and at least one little black dress that you can dress up or down with accessories. Parisian women dress up more than Americans or Brits so take some heels and/or wedge shoes as well as flats for touring around and walking a lot.

For both places, I would look for clothing that combines tangerine and deep pink, the light aqua spearmint color, and a darker blue that is between navy and cobalt. Also, white shoes and handbags are trendy for this summer but difficult to keep clean when traveling. Have fun!! : }

How do big girls dress sexy?
Q. I'm going with some friends to a night club in a few days, im a pretty big girl, how do i dress sexy?

A. Begin with the wardrobe. If you normally walk around in a pair of tired old sweats and a baggy tee...let's have some fun and update!

Select hot outfits. Just because finding clothes is harder doesn't mean you can't still find hot outfits! Try any store you like, even the thrift shops! Make sure your clothes are not tight!

Look curvy and sexy. For a sophisticated look go for darker jeans. the low-rise kind will hug your curves which is just want you want and prevent the bulge you get around the front of the crotch and fly of your jeans if you have a very large stomach.

Provide coverage, if desired. If you don't like to show your arms, try a black sheer hang jacket. Sexy clothing doesn't have to show too much.

Wear one color. You don't want to be cut in half. Stick to deeper shades. If you have to wear two colors, wear the darker on the bottom and the lighter color on on top.

Belts can give you a nice waistline. It's best to go with thicker black ones or have it match the shirt or jacket your wearing.

Only wear skirts that at least go to your knees. Also wear leggings or tights underneath skirts to reduce the appearance of fat.

Stay away from broomstick skirts! Even if you are digging the bohemian look, these are not attractive on anyone!

Go for sexy well-fitted jeans. Wide legs are good if you have a big, voluptuous booty. Skinny jeans are still in style and look great on a lot of bigger girls.

Don't show your chest. Wear collared shirts and high-rising shirts. Chances are that you have a large chest...you don't need to show the skin.

Select long earrings. They are always in style and chic.

Be confident, which is the sexiest thing of all. Guys will look your way if they know you are a woman of confidence.

Play up with hot necklaces and shoes. Go for reasonably high heels and trendy flats.

Have flawless skin. Use an exfoliating scrub. When you get out of the shower, apply non-oily moisturizer (Try one with a shimmering effect!) to your body and face moisturizer to your face. Wash your face at least once a day with gentle soap such as Dove. Shower at least once a day, as well as any time you get sweaty.

Apply beautiful light makeup. Use foundation a few shades lighter than your skin. Then apply white shadow from your lash line to your brows, and a hint of light green shadow on your lids. Use light mascara and some chapstick.

Good luck!

Q. Hi!

Thanks!

Women where do you get your trendy but affordable clothes?

Q. any good web sites with cute trendy clothes, shoes, that wont burn a whole in your pockets~

A. For must have on A budget,E-bay, and craigs list.

How to look, dress more girly?
Q. I am so totaly girly on the inside, i love skirts, dresses, shorts, blouses etc. And i definatly love heels and wedges. I wear wedges to school. And i guess i look alot girly but i wantt to look even more.

A. NOTE: This is a really long article. I am posting the Clothes and Style section here but there is much, much more at the source below, including Grooming, Make-up & Health , Behavior, Tips, Warnings, and Things You'll Need!

Clothes & Style

1 Have a sense of style. Being fashionable is important. Note that this does not necessarily mean "trendy". Try to read more fashion magazines to learn what kinds of clothing go well together. Try teen magazines like Teen Vogue and Seventeen for starters, and if you want to, move on to adult fashion magazines like Elle and In Style. Try mixing and matching the clothes in your closet. The results may not always be great, but you're bound to discover new and cute combinations. Be sure to Have Your Own Style have your own style, because it's not right to wear something that just isn't you. It's often better to have a basic personal style than to always be chasing the latest "fad" look. You could waste hundreds of dollars on clothes just for them to go out of style a few weeks later. When buying clothes to set up your wardrobe, buy the girly girl basics.

2 Slowly add special pieces to to your wardrobe that will accentuate your look. Pink is a typical girl color, but don't shy away from blacks and blues, as they can also look very cute! Your wardrobe should contain:
Light-wash and dark-wash denim skirts
Light-wash and dark-wash shorts
At least one pair of dark-wash skinny jeans.
Six plain tank-tops in the colors: pink, peach, blue, light green, lavender, and white. These will be good for layering or a weekend casual look when paired with shorts or jeans.
Cute panties. (No one will see them, of course. But they will make you feel cute, nonetheless.)
At least three comfortable pairs of shoes: one pair of workout sneakers (a girly girl is never to be seen outside the gym with sneakers), and a couple of pairs of cute shoes (heels, moccasins, flats, sandals, take your pick). Ultimately, a girly girl can never have too many shoes!
Three cute dresses. When shopping for dresses, remember: short or tight, chose only one. Do not pair them both. Go for neutral colors that can be matched with other things for fancy occasions, but also buy colorful and cute sundresses for the summer time!
Use mostly pastel colors, but neutrals go with everything. Have enough clothes in both types of colors to mix and match.
Wear clothing that fits. Don't wear low cut jeans if you don't feel comfortable, but make sure your jeans fit you and are not tight or baggy. A belt is okay, but the fit says it all. Try on lots of brands, styles, cuts, and sizes. Not every size jean will fit the same, depending on the brand. The same goes with shirts. Not tight, not baggy. If your shirt is so tight you can see your bra or you have trouble getting your shirt off of your back, then it's too tight. To see if the shirt is too small, raise your arms up. If your stomach shows when you do this, then the shirt is excessively short! Things like camisoles are supposed to fit tight however.
Remember, you don't have to buy brand name clothing. Brands are just status symbols designed to make people feel superior. Don't get caught up in that behavior, because you really don't have to spend a lot of money to be girly. Just make sure you choose clothing very carefully, so that you don't waste money. On the other hand, if you like something that is affordable and it's a brand name, don't avoid buying it just because you don't want to buy brand names.

3 Good stores to buy girly clothes are:
Forever 21 (trendy clothes and accessories for women and men)
Rue 21 (casual apparel for both women and men)
Wet Seal (moderately priced clothes and accessories for young women)
Charlotte Russe (clothing and accessories for teenage girls and young women)
Alloy (clothes for teens and college students)
Dillard's (a wide variety of clothes for women and men)
Ardene (affordable clothing for young women)
Justice (clothes and lifestyle products for young girls)
Victoria's Secret (fashionable outer and under wear for women)
Aeropostale (cute, trendy clothing for teenagers and both men and women)
Hollister (cute, more sporty look for teen girls and guys)
Abercrombie and Fitch (fashionable look for young men and women)
Delia's (cute clothes for girls and teen girls)

What's the oldest article of clothing that you own AND still wear?

Q. What is it about this item that's kept you wearing it all this time?

A. The very oldest article of clothing I own I found in the back of a closet when we were cleaning out my Great Aunt's house as we got her ready to move into a nursing home. It was a jacket, long, black, with long sleaves- really dressy looking. It probably belonged to my great-great-aunt. I took it to a couple different vintage clothing stores and they all placed it from having come from some time in the late 1930's! There were two other jackets - a tan one and a sea foam green one, probably from about the same era - in the bunch, but the black one is my favorite. They're all in great condition. My great great aunt was a bit of a fashonista, and bought the newest trendy clothes each season when she was younger. These jackets must have survived in such great condition because she replaced them the next season with a newer fashion.

My mom managed to save a lot of her old clothes from the late 70's. Unfortunately, I weigh almost 30 lbs more than she did back then (I'm "curvey" and she was a total twig!), so most of the clothes don't fit me. I am fortunate enough to have two pairs of shoes that used to be hers, though. One is a Dr. Schoals wooden sandel, with a leather strap over the top and brass-looking tacks holding the strap into the wood. These shoes are by far some of the most comfortable ones I've ever put on! The othrs are a gold-sequence platform thong-style flip-flop. They scream "disco!" and are cute summer shoes when gold would go better with what I'm wearing then white.

can anyone recommend a good shoe for surgical nurses to wear?
Q. I will be on my feet all day for hours at a time.

A. I am a surgical nurse, and the best shoe I have ever put on my foot is called a Mizuno Nirvana 2. They are pricey, but a great buy if your looking for a solid shoe with a nice breeze passing thru it and support. I work w/ 2 other nurses who also wear the same shoe. They are just fantastic. You can purchase them off the internet or you can buy them in sports shoe stores. They are light and the mesh fabric in the shoe breathes your foot. They have an arch support which is great inside and the sole of the shoe is supportive. I even bought a pair for my brother in law who just had open heart surgery for his fitness stuff following surgery and he loves them.
One of our surgeons also wears Mizuno's when he is out rounding on the floor. His are not the Nirvana, but a cheaper brand of Mizuno shoe.
The crocks are the cheapo plastic shoes w/ no support and they end up not being all that comfortable. They are just trendy and have caught on sort of like those ignorant Jellies in the 1980's. Clogs offer no support what so ever. They are just trendy. Surgeons wear them because they are easy to put on and off and they stand in 1 spot for long periods of time. They do not walk around.
The podiatrist at our hospital also said Mizuno is an excellent shoe for people on their feet all the time.
Good luck and happy trails!!!

Why do British women feel the need to wear preposterous hats to public functions?

Q. American women are far more elegant when they wear a hat. I am thinking of Jackie O who set the standard. And French women know the need for understatement and elegance in headwear. British women wear hats that make them look like a cross between Little Bo Peep and a botannical experiment. Don't they see what clowns they look like or am I missing something here?

A. maybe they wear impractical hats just as we have impractical shoes - infers status (to wear high maintenance, and disposable income on trendy frivolity.)

What are some good shoes for work?

Q. I work in a trendy retail store and am constantly on my feet. I'm not allowed to wear any athletic shoe or sandals. My feet hurt after work and I think it's time I get some good shoes. I have heard Toms are good. I don't want to spend anymore that $50. I am a 17 year old girl. I need trendy but most importantly comfy! Thankyou! :)

A. You get what you pay for. I also work retail, and have learned that a good shoe is so worth the money. I live in my J.Crew cece ballet flats. Personally, I would avoid TOMS, especially if your store is higher end or trendy. They just aren't very professional or cute IMO.

Pictures from way back when, why did they look different?
Q. I was just looking at some old pictures of my mother when she was young (back in the early 40's). People looked different back then. I know it could be their clothes, etc. I look at her today and she looks like the present time.

Why do you think people look different in their generation but when they reach today's time they don't look different anymore? I am focusing on the face and nothing else. So hard for me to explain, maybe you will know what I mean.

A. I remember seeing a picture of a friend of mine, when she was a young
teenager. She wore dark red lipstick and a very grown up hairstyle
and she didn't pluck her brows then. And she looked at 15 older than
she did at 26. I remember pictures of my mom and aunts when they
were teens, and they all looked mid 30's when they were only in their
mid teens. They were all chunkier, had thick bushy hair and curly, and
wore anklets with thick ankles. Their clothes were more loose and
not form fitting. They wore bulky coats and clunky shoes and lace up
oxfords in high school. They wore dark lipstick and blush and had
thicker brows also. It was a new trendy look that was preceded by
the flat wavy hair styles of the 30's. And every young woman wore more make up or darker toned makeup than they wear today. The makeup alone can change someone from a more light and natural shade to a harsher darker coloring. And the hair style can make all the difference in the world as someone gets older. Colors of clothes
changed along with the cut or curve of a style. Dark and drab colors
were more predominant in the 40's and reflects the dreary years of
the war going on. I look back and remember a downtown rush hour
with people in dark clothes. And pictures taken then were in black
and white. And to me as a child, I saw things in a black and white
world most of the time. People didn't wear the bright colors of today,
because they weren't available to technology. They didn't have the
dyes for one thing that we have available today, nor the synthetics
that were developed after I was young. People also had less hanging
in their small closets than they do today. Many had to wear the
same dresses as they did in the summer. You never saw an average
person being a clothes horse back when. Clothes were more secon-
ary in importance than they are today. People were more frugal, and
they put their extra money in a bank. There were no credit cards
to buy on whims, or keeping up with new styles and fads. Everyone
tended to make do. And if women did splurge, it was on a new hat,
or a new pair of shoes. Those two things, could update a wardrobe.
I remember how few clothes hung in my parents' closet. One evening
dress for going out dancing, one fur coat, a couple of skirts and
blouses and winter wear was folded in a drawer along with under-
wear and socks and sweaters. My dad had two suits and a couple pair
of slacks and a few dress shirts. His casual wear was limited to
some light blue khaki pants and a few short sleeved shirts. And since
there was only one closet it all was mashed together. It wasn't until
we moved to a larger house with a double sized closets, that more
clothes were added. And there were built in drawers inside the
closet for folded things.
My mother looked younger to me growing up, than she did as a
teenager. Just due to a changed shorter hair style and she stopped
perming her hair and began coloring it. She changed with the times
to different makeup that was more flattering. And her clothes followed
the trends but yet she didn't by fadish things. She was practical and
bought things to last. I think most people had that same mind set.
Since they were products of the Great Depression and WWII.

I want to look preppy, cute, and sophisticated!?

Q. I'm 13. Stores I should shop at, outfit ideas? Money is not an issue. Thanks!
I want to look preppy, cute, sophisticated, classy, yet relaxed. :)

A. Personally, I think the best style type is preppy because it is classic and never goes out of style. Here are some basic steps:

1. The attitude: Always present yourself in a nice and welcoming manner. Be polite and courteous with girls, boys, and teachers. Never be snobby and don't try too hard.
2. The clothes: Wear clean cut, classic clothes, but they do not have to be trendy. Places like Abercrombie and Hollister are not preppy. Try J.Crew, Lacoste, etc. Wear skirts, khaki, polos, bermuda shorts and bright colors. The Jackie Cardigan is also a good, classic choice.
3. Accessories: Always wear accessories, but not too many. Try pearl jewelry such as pearl studs. Also wear ribbon belts in different colors.
4. Shoes: Clean white tennis shoes are cute, or leather or suede ballet flats. No sneakers or Uggs.
5. Hair: Make sure your hair is always well cleaned and conditioned. Don't do the same thing every day, mix it up! Try ribbons in a ponytail, headbands, and pigtails.
6. Always keep clean: Brush your hair, take care of your teeth, and smell nice.
7. Get good grades: don't be a show off or a nerd, but be smart and informed. Read classic literature, watch international sports and watch the news.
8. Get involved in a preppy sport: Try cross country or track and field (the BEST sports!). Or try lacrosse, rowing, golf, horseback riding, anything that isn't too contact sportish.
9. Most importantly.... HAVE CONFIDENCE!!! Focus on your inner beauty and never let anybody tell you who you should be.

How do i be preppy ( 20 characters)?
Q. thanks you guys i'm kinda trying to come out of the shy faze since my mother died and she always wanted me to be popular

A. Personally, I think the best style type is preppy because it is classic and never goes out of style. Here are some basic steps:

1. The attitude: Always present yourself in a nice and welcoming manner. Be polite and courteous with girls, boys, and teachers. Never be snobby and don't try too hard. Always talk! What I am saying is be social but never during class. Preppy people are never misbehaving people.
2. The clothes: Wear clean cut, classic clothes, but they do not have to be trendy. Places like Abercrombie and Hollister are not preppy, unless you buy the really simple items. Try J.Crew, Lacoste, etc. Wear skirts, khaki, polos, bermuda shorts and bright colors. The staples of the preppy style are oxford shirts, polo shirts, and sweaters/cardigans. anything simple and of a solid color will work! The Jackie Cardigan is also a good, classic choice. Also, try a cute blazer over a simple dress. Also, for jeans, don't have any rips in them. Some good colors for clothes include pastels in pink, blue, green, and yellow or neutrals such as off white and brown.
3. Accessories: Always wear accessories, but not too many. Try pearl jewelry such as pearl studs. Also wear ribbon belts in different colors.
4. Shoes: Clean white tennis shoes are cute, or leather or suede ballet flats. No sneakers or Uggs. If you want boots try leather or suede slouch boots or straight leg boots... classic!
5. Hair: Make sure your hair is always well cleaned and conditioned. Don't do the same thing every day, mix it up! Try ribbons in a ponytail, headbands, and pigtails.
6. Always keep clean: Brush your hair, take care of your teeth and nails, and smell nice. Also, for your nails, paint them clear, white, or light pink. Dark or bright nails are so tacky!
7. Do well in school: If you have the answer, raise your hand. But do not be a show off or brag about your grades.
8. Get involved in a preppy sport: Try lacrosse, cross country, track and fiel, horseback riding, volleyball, swimming, rowing or golf. ( I personally enjoy running!)
9. Most importantly.... HAVE CONFIDENCE!!! Focus on your inner beauty and never let anybody tell you who you should be. Also don't try and fit in, that will only make things worse. Ease into your preppy transition slowly, one piece of clothing at a time, or over a long vacation.

What kind of casual shoes for men are hot these days?

Q. I am 28, 5ft.8in.

My personal image statement is trendy but not flashy.

Any images?

A. go to jcrew they have awesome mens shoes!!!

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/category.jhtml?id=cat290099&_requestid=27727

look at the sneakers and flip flops

I am thinking about buying a men/women's clothing store in a small town. What can I do to update it?
Q. I can't spend a lot of money, but I would like to make the store not look so 80's. Any suggestions about how to update dressing rooms, choose paint colors, use trendy decor would be appreciated. Also, what kind of fixtures are popular right now (mannequins, racks, display cases)? If you have any tips on going to market, that would be great too!

A. well i would try store supply.com & my friend redid an old store with tons of stuff from ikea they are affordable & easy to assemble. For the markets i would take alot of linesheets & write notes dont sign anything incase you change your mind you doont want them to have your signature because then its hard to cancel an order. I usually write all my orders after the show to see all my options you can budget that way better too. Definetly wear comfortable shoes & bring some candy or granola bars because it gets tiring talking allll day. My favorite show is in vegas Magic & project you need to go the whole time because they also have alot of great seminars that you can learn from. http://show.magiconline.com/magic/v42/index.cvn

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/6472/unusual_decorating_ideas_for_a_teen.html

When redecorating the room that used to be a child's, let the teenager show her own new personality, lifestyle, tastes and needs. Teens need to play the predominant role in the choices that go into their own space. She is now building her confidence, so help her by creating an individual environment for her. And allow yourself, her parent, to go a little wild when it comes to colors, window coverings and bedding...
Her room will tend to be much more eclectic and personal than any other room in the house! In fact, teenagers' bedrooms dare to be what we would all want our bedrooms to be: eclectic, trendy but unique, fresh, groovy and innovative.
Decorating a teen's room is a great project to work on together, making sure that you respect her taste for what is their bedroom.
Need tips on teen bedroom makeover decorating? Then check out these great bedroom decorating ideas from our team of designers at bedrooms.it. Personal tastes aside, here are some good ideas to transform a little girl's bedroom into a chich retreat for a young woman:

COLOR: Color is the key ingredient to any room's atmosphere. Color creates a mood. Color makes a statement. But color is also about personal taste. If she likes a certain color, allow her to use it, even if it's purple or other colors you'd never thought of having in a bedroom; but make sure she puts a lot of thought into this: remind her you can't just paint the walls of a bedroom every other week, so the color she chooses is going to stay there for a while. Let her take her own resposability with this choice.
When THE color has been picked, choose two to three complementary colors to scatter throughout the room in fabrics, curtains, and decorative accessories. Remember that a young bedroom can sport a broad spectrum of fabrics, from sunny stripes to fruity hues.

STORAGE: teenagers bedrooms must be both funny and functional. Storage solutions are a necessity in every room, especially with teens who have ever growing collections of CDs, magazines, text books, makeup, not to mention clothing and shoes, and maybe still some stuffed animals! :)
...So if you must have functional furniture make it funky!
Toy boxes are not good any longer, so make sure to provide lots of colorful yet sturdy storage solutions for your teen and she'll make sure to have everything in place. Colorful baskets are a good alternative for storage. And don't forget she needs to organize small things, too! For example, let her organize her desk in style with a set of color-coordinated desk accessories, etc. Message boards fall in this category, too. She will need space to hand little notes, pictures, memorabilia etc.

WORK SURFACE: create an ample work surface, possibly one that will easily accommodate a computer, keyboard, textbooks, desk accessories and notes. Encourage your teen to keep the surface tidy in order to facilitate studying. Also make sure that your teen has adequate lighting to work by as well as a supportive chair.

WINDOW TREATMENTS: be very creative when it comes to window coverings, because they can really make a difference. The sunlight that passes through your panels and curtains will give a whole new aspect to the bedroom, every hour of the day and night. You can either match them to the comforter, or, based on the colors of the room, chose coordinating colors but different patterns.

SOFAS, BEANBAG CHAIRS ETC: expect your teen girl to have lots of guests in her room: pajama parties, study groups, and best friends for a chat will always be welcome and need to find lots of space to sit, relax, study, listen to music etc. Consider adding a couple of funny and cool bean bag chairs to your daughter's bedroom, you could place them near the stereo to create a "Music Corner", then add a sofa or futon for even more sitting and lounging options. Then sprinkle the finishing touches about the room in the form of one-of-a-kind accessories.

LIGHTING: Lighting is important because your teen is going to be doing lots of activities in her room that require good lighting: reading, studying, etc. You can provide two different types of lighting, a main hainging lamp that gives light to the whole room, and then add several smaller funny light points near the bed (for late-night reading) near the stereo, on the desk. etc. In this way you are sure her eyes will get enough lighting, while still having a cool bedroom filled with nice stuff. If you're on a budget, you can reuse old lamps and add inexpensive funky lampshades for added atmosphere!

BEDDING: Teens bedding is a dream of color come true. Give her good reasons to go to bed at night. Buy funky beddings in coordinating colors so she can mix and match them depending on her mood. Different patterns create lovely ensemble that not even designers think of. Once again, let her imagination and creativity rule. Just give her ways to do so.

FLOOR COVERINGS: one day she will stop sitting on the floor, as you try to teach her, but it is not that time, yet. Now it's time to sit down and have a chat on the phone, lay down on a colorful rug, or on a comfy floor cushion near the bookcase. Give her colorful rugs to add interesting elements, but make sure they are also warm and good quality. Choose a color that matches the walls or the comforter, or the furniture.

PRIVACY: as she grows up, she will need more privacy that ever. Even more so if the room is shared by two or more sisters! Anyway, a teenager might want to retreat to a special place according to her mood, and you can give her the chance to do so without ever leaving her own bedroom: add groovy bead curtains, panels, canopies in two or three corners of the room (again, near the stereo, around her bed, near the window...) as to create different places she can escape to during the day.

BEDROOM THEMES: think bedroom themes are a thing of the past? She might be over the mermaids and the butterflies themes you created for her years ago, but this does not mean themes are to be banned. Just like for your decorating style, "themes" can help give the idea of wholeness to an otherwise chaotic teen bedroom. We have selected a few bedroom themes that will make any teen happy: Colorful stripes is all about stripes of colors in different hues that you can mix and match for limitless color combination; Funky Bedroom brings out her inner Diva: it's an exotic mix of silky textiles and animal prints. Moms will love this, too! Bohemian Chic Bedroom is a vintage-look collection for the trendy and stylish teenager. Hippie Chick bedroom is casual and comfy, a little retrò, a little hip. Mod Teenagers Bedroom has circles and stripes in pastels and brights for a crazy, fabulous, groovy bedroom. Omega Bedroom is modern, clean, fresh and trendy. Surfer bedroom is a lush tropical paradise for the the surfer girl. Oh La La! is perfect for a girls' night out slumber party and Flower Fusion is an evolution for the romantic girls with a modern twist.

What should I pack for a pilramage to Rome?
Q. We are traveling to Rome for church group... It will be a combination of a spiritual experience as well as a lot of sight seeing. I am a teenager and going with a bunch of other teens. I have no idea what to wear to stay cool and trendy but still be respectful....help please.....

A. If you have shorts, they need to be knee length, but most European teens are not in shorts. No mini skirts, but knee length is fine. If you wear a camisole, put a shirt on over it to cover your shoulders for a church. Nice slacks or capris will probably be best for your touring. You don't have to cover your head, unless that is your custom in church. If you wear jeans, they should be really nice ones. Decent sandals or flats, not flipflops, which are murder if you are doing a lot of walking.

Not many athletic shoes are worn in cities by italians...it just isn't in.

I have taken a number of groups on church tours, and we try to dress a little more nicely than at home and have never felt out of place.

Have fun.

What should you say on the phone to a job you applied for to see about your application?

Q. I applied for a job and I want to see what's going on, but I'm not really sure what to say when I call.

A. Persistence and etiquette go a long way in applying for a job.
Give a call and ask to speak to the Human Resource manager or the office manager or owner depending on the type of business.
Be sure to get their name and correct spelling.
If they are unavailable ask as to when they would be.
It is not always advisable to tell the person who you are and the nature of your call because they may be what is referred to as a gate keeper, meaning their job is to screen what is and isn't important and they can be very subjective in their view.
Ask the person in charge if they have received your application and if everything was in order or is there additional information they need.
Inquire as to what the time frame is as to when they plan to finalize a decision.
Tell the person you are looking forward to setting up an interview and thank them for their time.
If you do not have their correct street address and spelling of the name for the person with whom you spoke call back and ask it of the person answering the phone, and or check on line.
Write out a simple thank you card- (you can even pick up packs at a Dollar store or for a few bucks at a retailer)
Your note should read
Dear Mr/Mrs_______
Thank you for taking my call on date_____
It was a pleasure speaking with you.
I look forward to meeting you in person when we schedule an interview.
Sincerely
Name______
Telephone #_________
Email____________
Not those exact words are necessary but a polished cool professional approach.
After your interview be sure to send a second thank you.
Dear________
It was a pleasure meeting you.
I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with Company name______________, and know I would be an asset to you.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application/resume as well as the interview.
Sincerely
Name________
Phone#_________
Email__________________
All ways be sure to be polite.
Hold yourself confidently in your body posture, not cocky but assured of yourself.
(Smile, have good eye contact, shake the persons hand, sit up in the chair, speak in clear complete sentences, no snorts, eye rolls or ‘ya sure’, no ticks like tapping, shaking a foot, etc)
Dress professionally.
A clean ironed solid color button down shirt is preferred with a clean properly fitting pair of pants. This works for both men and women in most setting.
Anything baggy, dragging the ground, ripped, see through, to short, showing skin and tattoos is out.
No thong underwear or ones that have a panty line or show though (don’t go without underwear though) or bras that create lines and bulges.
No cloths that are being held together by safety pins, tape or unmatched thread.
If the pants don’t stay around your waist with the shirt tucked in then don’t wear them.
Women can wear the tail of their shirt out if it is presentable.
A simple belt is fine but nothing drastic, like studs and skulls, with chains hanging.
Keep make- up simple and light. Jewelry to a minimum.
Any piercing other then an ear should be taken out.
Hair neat and clean- no spikes, colors or greasy gels.
Shoes should be clean and in good shape- shoe polish can do a lot to dress up worn shoes.
A darker shoe like black or brown is best and not real trendy and chunky.
For a woman a hand bag that is small to medium matching her out fit or black, brown or tan in a simple design is best.
No Gum.
Be sure you have eaten before you go, have brushed your teeth, and have mints in your pocket.
If these clothing choices are not in your closet get them. You can find them even at thrift stores which won't kill your pocket book.
It is best to have two shirts in case you get called back for a second interview.
A rule of thumb is wear the lighter color of shirt first, color can intimidate or give the wrong first impression in an interview.
These may sound silly or simple, but there a lot people passed over for these simple reasons.
Carry a pen and a copy of your resume. If you do not have a resume create one. There are a number of simple templates on line check around like schools and job centers for free help in creating resumes.

why do shoe makers put such big heels on running shoes?
Q. no one runs landing on their heels. don't they know this? while i agree with some of the idea of those knew trendy barefoot glove shoes, i don't imagine ever seeing old people wearing something with such a small amount of padding....and we're all going to get old....i'd like to take precaution to how much impact my feet take.

A. You're better off running barefoot. Your feet take *less* impact if you run barefoot because you don't land on your heels when you run barefoot. Forget the "trendy barefoot glove shoes", though. They're a waste of $$$. Just go barefoot.

what are the trendy shoe styles this year?

Q. I'm starting a business selling shoes but I need to know which are the most trendy styles for women this year. I don't want to buy a bunch of shoes that will not sell. I know that really high heels are not so in, but what about wedges or slip-ons? Please let me know your suggestions,

Thanks!

A. Well for teens, like myself you should try these:

* Flats - everyone loves them even adults.

* Converse or Vans. They are very in.

* my personal favorite shoes are harajuki, it's hard to spell. But they are proably the most expensive sneakers out there. The style of them is japanese harajuki obviously and they have a lot of high top and bright colors.

But the MUST haves are pretty much flats and vans. Guys also wear vans.

What advice do you have for me to build a new wardrobe?
Q. I'm a female college-age adult, with an androgynous aesthetic. I have lost pretty significant amounts of weight and need to basically rebuild my wardrobe nearly from scratch. I might as well try to do it right, since my body fat is probably not going to change substantially even though I'm trying to build up muscle. I am 5'3" and of medium body fat and above average muscularity, with medium-to-broad shoulders (narrow for a man, fairly broad for a woman); typical female thighs, hips and butt; B-cup breasts, a flat stomach; and an undefined waist. To me, flattering my body, in order of priority means looking making my shoulders look even broader, making my hips and thighs look narrower, looking taller, disguising my breasts and otherwise looking more masculine. My life-style requires that my clothing NOT look "moneyed" in any sense and I am almost never at formal events. I'd rather have my clothing be hard-wearing than delicate. I dress for practicality and comfort primarily. It doesn't have to be "trendy" and I wouldn't know if it was. It's winter so I'm concentrating on cool-weather clothing. I don't need new shoes or underwear. I have a very small budget so I will be shopping pretty near exclusively at thrift stores. I need general tips for clothing that works flatter my body in MY idea of flattering, and is comfortable and fairly practical.
I don't have a sense of style. I have a sense of wanting to look good in clothing that's comfortable. For me, looking good means looking more physically masculine. I want to know about clothing that helps with that.

A. Invest in good basic pieces such as:
- A crisp white button down
- Tank tops to wear as layers in black, white, beige
- One good pair of black or navy dress pants

Things of that sort. Things that aren't trendy but stand the test of time.

What does it mean by tendy night club attire when going to vegas?

Q. I am going to be in vegas in 2 months and wondering what to wear and examples for men and women. Need help with this and lots of ideas especially for men! Thanks

A. Trendy means whatever is most popular at that time. Backwards baseball caps and baggy pants were once trendy for young men but now a lot of clubs frown on that look. Fancy clubs usually have a dress code posted at their entrance and on their web site. When RA was in Luxor, I read their card, it said something about men having to wear a collared shirt, no tennis shoes (sneakers) allowed, no t-shirts, no jeans. Look up the clubs on Google and look for their dress codes.

For example, here's Pure's dress code:

http://www.caesarspalace.com/casinos/caesars-palace/casino-misc/pure-nightclub-detail.html

Dress Code:
Casual Chic: Fashionable attire is required. No sports jerseys, tank tops on men, tennis shoes or athletic wear of any kind will be permitted. The dress code is at management's discretion.

What's a good name to have for a trendy, young women's fashion boutique?
Q. Something quite feminine. I Have thought of ones like Diva, Glitter, Sparkle, Butterfly but I think they sound too predictable. I like the sound of 'Two Lips' but there is already a shoe brand by that name. Another name was 'Luscious' but it sounds slightly provokative and I've checked that it is the name of a boutique that sell lingerie and nightwear for women. Any ideas?

A. Serendipity... Unless its already taken

Where can I find information on the company who manufactures Starter sportswear?
Q.

A. Nike is the owner and manufacturer on the Starter sportswear line of clothing.

NIKE, Inc. (NYSE: NKE)
1 Bowerman Dr.
Beaverton, OR 97005-6453

Phone: 503-671-6453
Fax: 503-671-6300
http://www.nikebiz.com

NIKE is the world's #1 shoemaker and controls more than 20% of the US athletic shoe market. The company designs and sells shoes for a variety of sports, including baseball, cheerleading, golf, volleyball, hiking, tennis, and football. NIKE also sells Cole Haan dress and casual shoes and a line of athletic apparel and equipment. In addition, it operates NIKETOWN shoe and sportswear stores, NIKE factory outlets, and NIKE Women shops. NIKE sells its products throughout the US and in about 160 other countries. Nike brand veteran Mark Parker succeeded Bill Perez, who resigned in 2006, as president and CEO.

Image-savvy NIKE sells its products through about 22,000 retail accounts in the US and through independent distributors and licensees in other countries. Subsidiaries include Cole Haan (dress and casual footwear), Bauer NIKE Hockey (hockey equipment), Hurley International (sports apparel for skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing), and Converse (classic and retro-style shoes including the Chuck Taylor brand). In 2004 it purchased athletic apparel and footwear makers Official Starter Properties and Official Starter LLC. In late 2004 NIKE bundled the brands into a unit called Exeter Brands Group, based in New York City. The group develops brands in discount retailers, such as Wal-Mart and Target.

The company is rethinking some of its long-standing agreements with retailers, particularly during the retail industry's consolidation push in 2005. As Sears and Kmart begin to polish its own image as a combined entity, NIKE decided effective October 2005 to no longer sell its products in Sears stores nationwide. Sears carries competitor brands: New Balance, Reebok, adidas, and Skechers.

NIKE is keeping its eye on its brands and how customers perceive them -- and on the competition. When adidas-Salomon acquired Reebok in 2006, the deal put the joined companies in a position to compete with longstanding rival NIKE, which has held the top spot in the athletic apparel and footwear markets worldwide for decades.

Looking over its shoulder (striving to maintain its top spot), Nike began actively filing patent lawsuits in 2006 against its competitors, specifically adidas-Salomon. Nike asserts that adidas has used elements of its SHOX cushioning technology in developing the adidas Kevin Garnett and A3 shoes.

NIKE's also honing in on active female customers, particularly in 2005. It became fully committed to women in 2000, when the firm began making its women's shoes using molds made from women's feet. It had been using molds made from a small man's foot. The company followed up by expanding its apparel in fashionable colors and by rolling out trendy low-rise workout pants. Being known as a brand that caters to men (its "Be Like Mike" ad campaign) and as one that supports athletes who take performance and sports seriously, NIKE is focusing more on women who want workout fashion. While NIKE has experienced failed attempts to capture the attention of this target segment, the firm has reworked its organizational, product, and marketing strategy to get there this time around. The plan involves expanding its NIKE Women brand with a catalog and Web site redesign. It also anticipates operating a dozen NIKE Women stores in the US by mid-2006.

Like most clothing and footwear makers, NIKE is vulnerable to the moods of a fickle teen market. In the mid-priced shoe segment, brands such as Skechers have cut into the company's market share. Following the success of NIKE-sponsored golfer Tiger Woods, NIKE has developed a set of golf clubs and unveiled a Tiger Woods apparel line. In addition, the company -- which relies on contract manufacturers -- has taken steps to avoid more criticism of human rights violations in its factories.

In 2004, less than a year after entering the market, NIKE closed all of its Paris operations because of difficulties with its French franchise operator. The closures do not affect NIKE's otherwise healthy European expansion, including store openings in Barcelona, Hamburg, Lisbon, Madrid, and Milan, among others. The company altered the name of its women's stores, broadening the name from Goddess (taking on the original meaning of "Nike") to NIKE Women.

Co-founder Philip Knight announced in November 2004 he would step down as president and CEO, though he will continue as chairman of the company. Former S.C. Johnson & Son chief William Perez was tapped as Knight's successor but he lasted a year in the top spot. Mark Parker, a longtime Nike brand executive, was named president and CEO in January 2006, when Bill Perez left the company.

What are fashionable, stylish shoes for wide feet?
Q. I have wide feet and i hate them! i can never wear those trendy and stylish sandals that are always being sold because my feet explode out of them horizontally!

what are some ways to minimize the look of my feet, and also what are some shoe styles that dont enlargen the look of my feet? any tips, sugguestions?

A. Don't wear very high heels. Don't wear those awful pointy toe things which are all the fashion these days.

Wear a medium to low heeled shoe that has a rounded toe. Make absolutely sure you get the correct size for your foot.

Don't wear flats a lot because they make large feet look something like those flippers divers wear and the person tends to waddle a bit. Most unflattering to say the least.
