what are the hottest shoes for 7yr. olds that provide good arch support for flat feet?

Q. cant use orthotics for the simple reason there expencive and the rate he's growing wouldnt be in them long,so it needs to be a shoe with great arch support.

A. At 7, I should seriously hope nobody cares about how hot or trendy their shoes are. However, as far as good arch support, my family tends to have flat feet, and our favorite sneaker brands for arch support are New Balance, Skechers, and Vans (not the canvas slip-ons, but the skate sneakers).

Any ladies know where i can get comfortable work shoes?
Q. i wanted to start wearing heels to work, but im working my way up. im thinking wedges since i find they're easier to work with. Plus i need to find close toed ones cuz of the dress code :) Any help would be great!

A. There are aerosoles and naturilizers, they will have like three adorable trendy pairs for every hundred granny pairs. lol. but they are intentionally made to be comfortable. i stand on my feet all day and i can make it in my three inch aerosoles. And there are tons of adorable professional flats out there right now since thats also the trend, if you're tall enough to pull it off. They look really cute with the cropped pant suit/cropped jacket style. Check out macy's and nordstroms, and surprisingly payless and target. I'll find a cute pair and just wear them to death. Good luck!

Should I take all the hosiery out of my 4 sockdrawers and hand them out to the chicken legged women I saw?

Q. I was in a foodcourt downtown today where there are alot of office workers. I was shocked at the number of women who although they were wearing dresses (I give them points for that) they were bare legged! It is totally gross to look at white chicken legs under a dress. I am light skinned myself and never go bare legged in public, let alone to an office job. I also saw women in slacks with open toed shoes. Yuck, who wants to look at toes and feet in a food area? I have about 100 pairs of trendy tights and hosiery. Should I take them downtown and hand them out to my poor bare legged sisters?

I don't care if the weather is hot, looking good comes before comfort.

A. i agree 100% they should cover up those legs

Can someone please help me with an outfit?
Q. Hi! i am going to a college for a field trip and i want to look pretty on that field trip idk why but can someone help me?

A. You can look pretty but field tripos and college are usually more casual so reserve anything fancy like heels or dressy dresses for dates, evening outs and parties.

What kind of outfits really depends on your style though but here are some ideas:

A common outfit - casual by stylish:
# Skinny/Straight jeans tucked into tall boots (or ankle booties) worn a loose tunic top or button-up & cardigan/blazer/bomber jacket with minimal accessories like stud earrings & a bracelet

Feminine but casual Outfit
# Dress down a flowy skirt with opaque tights, add dolly flats (or something similare) and a nice t-shirt or knit top. Throw on a cardigan/bomber jacket or cardigan.

If you prefer going more casual like hoodies.
# Wear the hoodie a casual but pretty top (e.g. a jersey wrap top or white cotton collar blouse) and nice jeans or slacks with ballerina flats
http://img2.etsystatic.com/000/0/5271781/il_fullxfull.260125282.jpg
# Wear your favorite sneakers with cuffed shorts shorts, add tights if its still chilly outside and a nice top with cardigan/blazer or bomber jacket.
http://images3.chictopia.com/photos/ellabella/5403104698/brown-sweater-blue-shorts-gray-pour-la-victoire-shoes-black-dkny-tights.jpg
# Look girly in a basic t-shirt with a trendy skirt, (tights), blazer/cardigan & flats or boots (ankle booties with short skirt, tall boots with any skirt).
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u9jH4TzRdRU/Tx4QtkjK7aI/AAAAAAAAD9c/hLwY0-PeFS0/s1600/DSC_0050.JPG
# or A nice long top/tunic (upper thigh) with leggings/jeggings & flats or boots + a jacket
http://lipshipsandfashiontips.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/leggings-2.jpg

For a more proffessional look which I personally wear are wearing the clothes women wear to office (either casual or formal ones) seperatly and dress them down.
# Darkwash Jeans with a Blouse/Knit top or Button up, Blazer & Flats
http://images3.chictopia.com/photos/mowmigaba/4830490344/black-h-m-shoes-red-sheinside-jacket-black-etorba-bag.jpg
# Knee lenght pencil skirt with tights & flat tall boots and a button up with a cardigan or leather jacket
# Sheath or Any not-to-fancy Dress with tights, Cardigan & Flats.
http://www.glamcheck.com/archive/images/stories/stories/fashion-tips/CLOTHING-GUIDE/Dresses-for-Women/Dresses-for-Women-Sheath-Dress/Dresses-for-Women-Sheath-Dress-Silhouette.jpg

Phew, I could rabble on outfit ideas forever but I hope these outfits will spark some ideas.
Most of outfits are low-key but nor too casual but not dressy at the same time. Some of the outfits has a tailored proffessional vibe but they are not too much for college. The only bad things to some people is that you can come off mature which can be either a bad or good thing depending on your perspective. If you dont have any problem with a lady-like classy look then none of the outfits would be bad!
I wear to a school similare to college and these are things I wear.

Anyway, hope it helped!

Pictures from way back when, why did they look different?

Q. I was just looking at some old pictures of my mother when she was young (back in the early 40's). People looked different back then. I know it could be their clothes, etc. I look at her today and she looks like the present time.

Why do you think people look different in their generation but when they reach today's time they don't look different anymore? I am focusing on the face and nothing else. So hard for me to explain, maybe you will know what I mean.

A. I remember seeing a picture of a friend of mine, when she was a young
teenager. She wore dark red lipstick and a very grown up hairstyle
and she didn't pluck her brows then. And she looked at 15 older than
she did at 26. I remember pictures of my mom and aunts when they
were teens, and they all looked mid 30's when they were only in their
mid teens. They were all chunkier, had thick bushy hair and curly, and
wore anklets with thick ankles. Their clothes were more loose and
not form fitting. They wore bulky coats and clunky shoes and lace up
oxfords in high school. They wore dark lipstick and blush and had
thicker brows also. It was a new trendy look that was preceded by
the flat wavy hair styles of the 30's. And every young woman wore more make up or darker toned makeup than they wear today. The makeup alone can change someone from a more light and natural shade to a harsher darker coloring. And the hair style can make all the difference in the world as someone gets older. Colors of clothes
changed along with the cut or curve of a style. Dark and drab colors
were more predominant in the 40's and reflects the dreary years of
the war going on. I look back and remember a downtown rush hour
with people in dark clothes. And pictures taken then were in black
and white. And to me as a child, I saw things in a black and white
world most of the time. People didn't wear the bright colors of today,
because they weren't available to technology. They didn't have the
dyes for one thing that we have available today, nor the synthetics
that were developed after I was young. People also had less hanging
in their small closets than they do today. Many had to wear the
same dresses as they did in the summer. You never saw an average
person being a clothes horse back when. Clothes were more secon-
ary in importance than they are today. People were more frugal, and
they put their extra money in a bank. There were no credit cards
to buy on whims, or keeping up with new styles and fads. Everyone
tended to make do. And if women did splurge, it was on a new hat,
or a new pair of shoes. Those two things, could update a wardrobe.
I remember how few clothes hung in my parents' closet. One evening
dress for going out dancing, one fur coat, a couple of skirts and
blouses and winter wear was folded in a drawer along with under-
wear and socks and sweaters. My dad had two suits and a couple pair
of slacks and a few dress shirts. His casual wear was limited to
some light blue khaki pants and a few short sleeved shirts. And since
there was only one closet it all was mashed together. It wasn't until
we moved to a larger house with a double sized closets, that more
clothes were added. And there were built in drawers inside the
closet for folded things.
My mother looked younger to me growing up, than she did as a
teenager. Just due to a changed shorter hair style and she stopped
perming her hair and began coloring it. She changed with the times
to different makeup that was more flattering. And her clothes followed
the trends but yet she didn't by fadish things. She was practical and
bought things to last. I think most people had that same mind set.
Since they were products of the Great Depression and WWII.

Are there any other nice places to shop for CUTE plus size clothes?

Q. Hi there, I am a Lane Bryant and Torrid fan. I can also find cute clothes at Nordstrom's and Macy's. However, I am not interested in looking like anyone's Granny. Any ideas on other places or websites that sell cute plus size clothes that are well made?

Thanks!

A. I feel your pain! I usually find great clothes at those stores, but some of them aren't my style. I can usually find great basic pieces... like dress pants, button up shirts, and jeans at Macy*s and Lane Bryant but I like the hip stuff too!

In my area, these are the places I go to...

Goody's. Believe it or not, they have a small section in the Plus Size women's department called Junior Plus. I bought some of my favorite summer outfits from there this year. They usually have the trendy stuff, too! I like their summer tops and shorts!

Ross. If you have one of these near you, I suggest that you go! Their Woman's World section usually has a bunch of clothes for the older lady, but they also have a lot of cute style clothes. I got some really cute hoodies and tops there this fall. When I go there, I usually find 90430344909085 things or NOTHING. It can really be hit or miss. If you take the time to look through each hanger, you will find some cute stuff. They go up to a size 4X too. Oh, and check out their dresses! They have a ton of dresses in Plus Size!

Cato. There is a Cato right down the road from me. They have Petite and Plus. What is cool is that anything that they have in Petite... they have the same exact thing in Plus. I hate going by a window and being like... "That outfit is so cute!" only to find out that it only goes up to a size 12. :( Again, you really have to look through the racks, but I have bought some nice stuff there. Also, they have a shoe section with plenty of wides and size 9, 10, 11.

Fashion Bug. While their stuff is usually lower quality, they do gear a lot of their clothes to the younger crowd. They usually have awesome dresses and stuff. I have a hard time finding dresses for weddings and events like that, but Fashion Bug has come through for me a lot. And they have cute underwear, especially if you like thongs and boyshorts.

Believe it or not, I do like to shop at Wal*Mart and Target sometimes. I find great basics like velvet pant suits, long sleeve t-shirts, and capris/shorts.

OldNavy. They used to have a better selection in the store, but they have gone exlusively online for their Plus Sizes. If you know what size you are, then you can shop there. I try not to buy online because I like to try something on, but I am really familiar with their sizes. OldNavy is probably one of my favorite places for summer clothing.

Those are my usual spots! I wish you luck because I know how hard it is to find something that looks cute and is flattering to our body type! Good luck!

Is there such thing as Trendy Orthopedic Athletic shoes?
Q. I'm a 34 year old woman who works in a business casual setting. Can anyone help with finding trendy orthopedic shoes? My Dr says I need to wear gym shoes while treating my planter faciitis but it seems difficult to accessorize around the New Balance shoes??? Puma is trendy but are they ok? I'm going to ask my Dr about them but thought I may get an answer here first. Help please?! Most styles are just too u-g-l-y!

A. Hi,

This question is the reason so many retailers of orthopedic shoes have trouble selling their products to consumers. The answer is quite simple -- yes! Nowadays, orthopedic shoe manufacturers have started bringing in shoe designers to update their shoes. In fact, they try to mirror the current styles of ordinary shoes as much as possible, while preserving the qualities and features that make them orthopedic.

If you are looking for a place to start your search for stylish orthopedic shoes, check out brands such as Orthaheel, Aetrex, Ecco, and Propet.

What do you dislike or possibly even hate that is trendy in fashion at the moment?

Q. I'm just curious to know from the girls especially, but guys your opinions are welcome as well.
For example, I DO NOT get the craze and somewhat of an obsession
with Gladiator shoes/sandals. I think they're kinda wack lol, but I do have a feeling that they'll grow on me ha ha :)

What do you dislike? .... And for that matter, what do you LOVE ?? :).

A. I love gladiator sandals, they will not go away.

One thing I hate is sexy belly shirts. They look great on some people, but others probably should not be wearing them. Sexy belly shirts are for people with sexy bellies!

What kind of dress shoes or sandals will look with this dress for an outside wedding?
Q. I'm going to my friends wedding this Saturday and do not know what kind of dress shoes or sandals to wear that day.

Here is the dress:

Links of dress shoes or sandals from target or payless in wide will help out a lot and thank you to everyone who helps out with this one.

10. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-merona-etha-cork-low-wedge-sandal-white/-/A-14385062#prodSlot=medium_3_39

there are plenty but, the basic guideline would be to go for shoe colours that are in the dress such as white or tan/beige/nude or pale yellow or pale green. in this case, avoid black as it would look a tad bit awkward with this dress.

I have big feet. How am I to find a pair of descent, good-looking shoes with feet as big as mine??

Q. It's like this, I go to a shoe store & all of he shoes there are so trendy and everything. So, for feet as big as mine, I cant find one that I'm satisfied with. I wear sport shoes to school. And that ain't comfortable.

A. YOU DIDN'T SAY WHAT SIZE AND IT'S NOT NECESSARY FOR ME TO KNOW. GO ONLINE AND TRY MASON SHOES, MORDSTROM'S, CLOUD CLIMBERS, LANE BRYANT AND FOR DISCOUNT SHOES AND BOOTS TRY JESSICA LONDON. EACH COMPANY LISTED HAS CATALOGS ONLINE AND IN PAPER. THE SIZES RANGE FROM NARROW TO EXTRA WIDE AND THEY HAVE YOUNG UP TO DATE SELECTIONS FOR THE MOST PART. THERE ARE SOME SPECIALTY SHOE STORES OUT HERE TOO. JUST BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF AND SURF THE NET. TRY "LARGE SIZE SHOES FOR WOMEN" FOR INITIAL WEB SEARCH AND TAKE IT FROM THERE.

I have fat feet does anyone know where I can buy heels?
Q. I have fat feet and I really love wearing heels and wedged shoes the only problem is I have a hard time finding shoes that fit and it makes me really really embarrassed when I can't buy the shoes I want so I was wondering if anyone knew of any trendy cool sites or shops in Atlanta that have shoes for women with fat feet.

A. The Avenue (which is a plus-size clothing store) has some shoes in wide widths (www.avenue.com; they're called "Cloudwalkers" shoes...but I'd go to a store & try them on, because they seem to run a little big); Payless; or go to a website like www. zappos.com or www.endless.com and search for the shoes that come in wider widths.

I also have wider feet...some brands are better than others. Nine West & Bandolino seem to run a little wider than some other brands of dressy shoes; for casual shoes, Born is actually a M/W width and they have some adorable wedgy sandals.

what should i pack and when should i start packing?

Q. i am leaving for a trip to Oregon on july 17th i was wondering when i should start packing?
And since its in the Olympic Peninsula what should i pack? Winter clothes, summer clothes, please help!

A. Follow these six travel tips.

1.Select 5 easy pieces in a one neutral solid color (black, brown, tan, or navy, etc)

-1 Slack

-1 Short

-1 Jacket

-1 Skirt

-1 Jeans(white or dark denim)

2. Select Novelty Pieces-add your signature color

-1 White shirt or blouse

-1 White t-shirt

-1 5 tops in different styles in your signature color (3/4 length, tank, sleeveless, etc)

-1 Print top must be in signature color you have chosen (optional)

3. 1 workout or lounging outfit

4. Accessories in your signature color (scarves, handbag, necklace, bangles, etc)

5. 3 belts (1 dressy, 1 casual, 1 trendy- core color)

6. 3-4 Shoes (walking or exercise, dressy, casual flats, sandals or loafers core color)

what are some good sturdy shoes that i can wear when walking around in europe?
Q. we will be walking a lot visiting museums, etc... for four months.

but here's the catch - i'm a huge fashionista - i refuse to wear ugly sneakers or hiking boots.

instead of calling me a prima donna (haha)...
...do you have any suggestions as to what kind of shoes i can bring on my trip? the weather in most places will be moderate. they should be sturdy, durable, comfortable, closed-toed, but also somewhat fashionable.

thank you all!
<3
=]

A. When I travel I like to bring Converse (all stars). They come in every color, are comfortable, easy to keep clean, and are classic with a touch of both trendy and retro styles.

They are so slim and easy to pack that I can easily fit 2 pairs into a small bag.

I find most (hiking) boots quite clunky for everyday wear.

Clothing Must Haves?

Q. I like to dress cute and cool yet trendy all at once, but not look too preppy because everyone in my school dresses like that, and i really don't want to.
What are some things that would be good for an unique yet still "teen" friendly style?
Like types of clothes\shoes (ex: white collared blouse, black ankle boots etc.)

I have a few things, like a lot of skinny jeans and graphic tees, along with leggings.
But any specific things?
Like maybe a collared boyfriend shirt?
Please help me!
Thanks a lot!

A. Visit websites like Forever 21, Piperline, EXPRESS, and see anything there you like? Try to mix & match. Like Black gray for instance can go with the following.
Maroon
White
Beige
Yellow
Turquoise
Green
Blue
Pink
Black
Orange
Purple
Lavender
Chartreuse
Any colors of the rainbow. Mix, match, combine them. My favorite is ANYTHING black & white (plaids, stripes, zebra, etc. . . ) and a touch of color. Pairing something hard to something soft. Ex: a leather jacket with something like cocktail dress, gives new meaning to any look. Boost deep burgundy with fiery red. Chartreuse adds an electric punch to cool blues.
Have you seen Jessica Parker wore white Blahnik shoes, pink pants & red top and this was AFTER Labor Day. Fashion is supposed to be fun, risky, daring, and gives you enough confidence.

Mix what you've got from last season to this season.

Any color pants, match them with the SAME COLOR pants, skirts, etc.

Do the funky colors, match them with the same funky color tops, etc.

Solids goes with mixing or matching the same solid color tops, etc.

Or do the opposite, mixing them with DIFFERENT colors.
Red jeans, red shirt. THEY MATCHED.

OR

Blue jeans & red jeans. They're MIXED.

Or denim & denim anything.

Or polyester & polyester type of fabric.

OR denim with polyester something.

Wear a hat that matches with your jeans.

Socks that matches with your hat. Like in Piperline's or H&M's latest 2012 Fall Trend: Color clashing. Everything looking like Spring had sprung! Green jacket, yellow top, blue pants. Yellow skinny jeans, yellow dresses and yellow skirts. A lot of solids in bright colors!

Visit Marshall's for example: For $88: you could buy 2 skirts, jeans, 3 tops, a box of chocolates & a bag of cookies @ Marshall's.
They're stacking up for Back to School, now. The key is mix & match, buy your favorite colors, so you can easily match or mix whatever in your closet. They're 35% less, from Macy's or other department stores, because they've been rejected by Quality Controllers, but you as the consumer won't know what that is. I can afford Saks or Nordstrom's, but I'm also frugal, and that's one of my favorite stores to buy newer items, to mix with other stores bought @ Nordstrom's.
The idea is to mix & match.

I could go on a million more times, I just don't have the time.

Fall 2012-2013 Fashion Trend for middle school?
Q. Ive always been a dork all my life wearing ugly clothes till about 6th grade (still pretty dorky) 7th grade i caught on to the fashion trends at my school but it took some time. Now that im entering 8th grade i kinda of want to be stocked up on the seasons fashion trends. So does anyone know what it will be this fall?
last school year were:
- tribal print
- toms
- VS yoga pants
- Uggs
- Pencil Skirts
- Hollister
- Abercrombie
- Aero
- Flowy shirts
Thats about it oh and vans and converse shoes. So pleade tell me what vlothing i should buy for this fall? :) Thank you

A. I work at hollister and our back-to-school clothes aren't even for sale yet! They go out on Saturday. So it's hard to tell yet. I would say skinny jeans/jeggings in bright colors (trendy) but dark wash is always good and easier to pull off (classic, can wear forever) because I know that the dark wash jeans and bright jeans are going to be sold for back-to-school but my manager didn't tell us anything else =\ so it's hard to say on tops yet.

My advice is to not "stock up" at the beginning of the year. Trends will change once winter starts and then once spring begins. You'll want to save some shopping money for then too!

But fitted scoop neck t-shirts in solid colors are always in-style. Also, a cami with a cardigan or hoodie is a classic in-style look. If you shop at hollister, aero, american eagle, and pacsun you'll be "in style" and you can pick whatever is there that you like and that looks good on you! :) shopping at forever 21 is cheaper but I find that their shirts fall apart really easily and there are some reallyyyy funky things there that are weird, and if you don't have a good sense of what is "in" then shopping there could make you end up with an odd closet haha.
I wish I had more of an answer but I won't know the looks for fall until Saturday, at hollister at least (and they're always "up" on the trends I've noticed since I started working there).

For the summer, though, neon and bright colored shorts are really popular. Also, loose fitting shirts that are off the shoulder are instyle. Flowy, girly tank tops are always cute. There are lots of shirts with lace and ruffles as well.

To address the list you gave: Tribal prints I'm just not a fan off. I hope they're on their way out of style. Uggs have been getting really old lately, but Sperry's were super popular the last 2 years for preppy girls, they'll probably still be in. Yoga pants will always be in. Flowy shirts are in right now. Hco, Abercrombie, A&F will always be instyle, American Eagle will be too. Aero usually is but I don't shop there.

Best Wishes,
Tiffany

PS: Ask again in late July or early August and there will be more reliable answers. Trends can change quickly and back to school will have different looks than this summer's.
PPS: there's nothing wrong with having your own style!! But it's very normal to want to know what is in style, sorry I can't be of more help. Oh and don't listen to Seventeen magazine's advice. They have some good advice but when I used to read the magazine a lot of their outfits weren't good, they were really ugly. But they do mention some good stores you can look at!

How would i introduce a vintage look for myself?

Q. I am tired of being 'normal' (fashion wise anyway) i really like the Vintage look, i have a few vintage pieces. What are some staple vintage items to get started on my new look?

A. Vintage looks consist of basic, well fitted pieces in traditional colors and modest coverage. Try some fabrics like tweed, wool, corduroy, and cotton. A basic button down oxford shirt or a soft sweater set in cashmere would look great with a knee length pencil skirt or thin wool pants. A pretty cotton skirt with a floral or polka dot pattern looks nice too. And you can't go wrong with a classic looking sundress with a sweater over your shoulders. Shoes should be genuine leather. Try a nude or black leather heel or a basic brown loafer. Try to avoid synthetic fabrics as these are more modern looking. It's essential to incorporate some feminine items that will personalize your look like a pretty strand of pearls, interesting broaches or a gold locket. Try to wear your hair in simple, pretty styles and avoid things like "messy buns" or "beach waves". Soft curls are a classic look for women. On a windy day wear a pretty silk scarf over your hair to hold it back or wear your hair in a clean looking bun. You can always add a pretty jeweled pin as an accent.

Try a simple tan trenchcoat that is good quality and well fitted. And don't do the oversized, slouchy bags. Carry a medium sized leather purse or a simple clutch. In the evening, you can carry a gold clutch.

Keep makeup simple - red or soft pink lips, black eyeliner and black mascara, powder and a rosy blush. Nothing with glitter or shimmer and no eyeshadow. And avoid the tanning bed!

The reason "vintage" styles have never gone away is because they give the look of high quality and class. The clothes are always well-fitted and tailored, look modest, but still feminine and beautiful, and incorporate classic pieces in fabrics that don't look too trendy or "now".

Great stores to shop at are J. Crew, Macy's, Belk. But you can find these kind of pieces anywhere. I wouldn't spend to much time at a thrift store unless it's a higher end one. Most of them carry nothing but junk.

Have fun and hope this helps :)

The oxford shoe trend? Is it supposed to be part of the hippy look, or kind of like a 20s/40s look?
Q. There is a hippy look that is back in style and there is also kind of this 1920s / 1940s look, so which look are the oxfords supposed to be for ?

A. It is more of a classy old fashioned look. I think they are nice :) They are meant to resemble a classic 1930's style men's dress shoe. Very trendy for any strong and beautiful woman

Haha that took a really long time.

Some good starting ASL words to start with toddler?
Q. My daughter is 20 months old but doesn't like to talk much... She has known how to sign "more" for a long time now, since that was the only sign I knew and it seemed to work for a lot of things... She's starting to get frustrated more lately b/c she can't say what she wants. I want to teach her more signs, what are some good ones to start with? I was thinking:
eat
drink
sleep or bed
and since we are dabbling a little in potty training, the signs for bowel movement and urine...
What are some more you think she would utilize?
Yes, we read to her every night and I talk to her a lot about the things around her. I used to work in a child development center and I know she is a little behind average. The doc says that she's not so far behind as to be worried, but you know, you always do. I'm not sure why she's picking up the talking so slowly. She understands what I say to her, though, and she's very good at following instructions.

A. Try to find the Signing Time videos! I believe it is also on PBS (here on Sunday mornings). We rented the videos from our local library though. It shows 2 kids doing all the signs and the mom of the deaf one talks and introduces the signs. Very well done and very engaging. Great place to start.

We started with:
Milk
More
Airplane
Kitty (or do Dog, whichever you have!)
Eat
Up
All Done

But you should add whatever you encounter daily:
Play
Friend
Ball
Car
Banana
Apple
Cookie
Cheese
Cracker (a little harder sign but useful)
Flower
Shoes
Book
Home
Bath
Share
Dance
Mommy
Daddy

My son is 3 and has a voracious vocabulary but we still work on learning new signs (he probably knows 500 now) and I quiz him so he does not forget them. Many of our friends used it only when the kids were learning to talk, but then quit and the kids have forgotten it. I think sign language is a valuable way of communicating! It's a second language!

It was adorable when my son and his best friend were 14 mos old and his friend wanted some of his snack and said "Share?" while signing Share and my son gave him a piece and said, "Friends" and signed Friend and they both laughed. These 2 talked very early (5-6mos) and easily learned signs of the animals at the zoo (fun & interactive if you can go to the zoo!), colors, and the alphabet at the same time their spoken vocabulary grew. They each spoke 100 words by 12 mos and knew about 40 signs. Sadly the friend moved away when they were 16 mos. It helps to be around other kids who sign! (Not too hard these days, it's pretty trendy!) The support can reinforce what your child is learning.

I was trying to make the point that (counter to what someone else said) that knowing sign language does NOT slow down mental development in any way. Some kids are just slower at talking and sign language can be a BIG help. You will be able to communicate and understand their needs even if they don't talk much. They will eventually! And knowing signs will decrease their tantrums and increase self esteem when they know they are "heard" and understood. That is the case with a friend of mine whose 2.5 yr old daughter still does not talk much and you can barely make out a few words when she does, it's mostly babble. But she can sign a good amount!

What are some stores for girls who are a bit overweight?

Q. Somewhere where they sell cute trendy clothes. I wear a size 18 or 20 in jeans and usually XL t-shirts, but I have a hard time finding cute clothes that fit me. I'm a teenager by the way.

A. Torrid! I wear a 11/13 so I'm too small for their store by a size, but they have THE cutest stuff. And they're shoes have a wider width, as do their bangles, bracelets, etc. They have all kinds of clothes. Jeans, tops, dresses, Ed Hardy stuff, jewelry, handbags, lingerie... everything you could imagine. If you say you're an 18/20, then it'd be perfect for you. They also have a range of styles that go from girly to rocker..:) They're in most malls, usually located next to Hot Topic. Or you can check out their website www.Torrid.com also in stores like American Eagle and such you would not find your size, but if you go to their website, they carry extended sizes, I believe they go up to a 22, so you're good with them. Also, Newport News. They go up high in sizes, and they also have a line of 'ShapeFX' which are really cute clothes, but with a little bit of 'bulge' control built into them. I've never ordered any personally, but they get recommended all the time in fashion magazines. There's also Lane Bryant, but they're a little more grownup & older... but you can always find basic pieces there that will work no matter what your age, like blue jeans & solid color tees. Good luck :)

When should males start buying from mens?
Q. I am 5 feet tall. my shoe size is 6.5, but i always wear a half size bigger so that i can make them last longer while i get newer shoes so i can have alot of them. And one more thing, whats the difference between Kids, Juniors, and Men. not really kids, andmen, but how is juniors different from men and kids and what is it? Also i'm turning 13 next month

A. My personal feeling is that you should star buying men's clothes when you start high school. This includes both men's departments, and also stores meant for both teens and young adults, like American Eagle and the like.

Also, in a department store, the differences are something like
Kids = for little kids
Juniors = trendy crap
Men's/Ladies = a variety of clothes meant for adults, or teenagers who prefer classics over weird fads and trends, but you have to find what's right for you because these sections have things meant for 15-year-olds all the way to things meant for 100-year-olds.

Thoughts about the woman pulled off the South West Airlines Flight?

Q. I'm curious to hear opinions of the young lady who was pulled off the SouthWest Airlines flight because her outfit was too revealing. The pictures of her, wearing her skirt and top were I thought not out of the norm, she was tall, blonde and a bit busty but nothing at all revearling about her top and her skirt was low to mid thigh. They actually showed some of the older SW Airline flight attendents from the 70's wearing hot pants on CNN today. Curious to hear opinions, because this woman was dressed nicely and I have seen some pretty poorly dressed people not get a second look. Think that jealously had anything to do with it?
I only saw the picture of her that was shown on the media. She looks fine in it and didn't have a tank top on, she had a top and sweater. My understanding was that it was a female passenger who complained after the boarded the plane and that she was given a blanket to cover herself after getting back on.

A. I offer 2 opinions on the topic of personal appearance in public places -

1. Airlines (Buses, Cruise ships, Railroads, etc) have the right to demand certain standards of conduct (or appearance)of passengers, and sometimes enforce that right when passengers or the airline would be harmed. In this case, however, I have heard that another passenger complained to the airline, and caused this situation to arise.
I have no idea what gives one passenger the right to judge the lady's clothing, this seems to be hypocritical and surely could have been resolved by moving the complaining passenger to a seat out of view of the young lady, and offering a blindfold to the complaining passenger.
Since the airline crew now had to intervene quickly, in order to let the flight take off on time, and keep the peace, perhaps it was easiest at the moment to do what SW did, right or wrong. On the other hand (with my perfect hindsight), if I were the air crew, I would have told BOTH passengers to get off and let them battle it out in court for being involved in a dispute of a nature unable to be resolved in a timely manner.

Opinion #2: On personal pride of appearance AND tolerance (or lack of tolerance), what ever happened to these things?
It used to be that far fewer people (slobs, etc) went out in public place dressed badly. I am not talking about dressing in a unique, trendy way, but plain out wearing ragged, dirty smelly clothing, etc. I once sat (in first class cabin, Dallas to London) way too close to a young couple and baby, dressed in worn-out jeans, tattered plain white-T shirts, cheap shower shoes, etc and the toddler wearing only a diaper and some kind of sleeping clothes, barely enough to keep it from catching cold. Granted that your clothing choices can be limited by your income and budget, but if you have the means to fly in first-class cabin to London, surely you could afford to dress better than that? On tolerance, YES, I thought to myself that if I had the power, I would tell that couple to dress more appropriately for the occasion, but of course I realized that I do NOT have that power, so I just kept my mouth shut, put on my headset, listened to the music, and enjoyed the flight.

Ok, open for debate, I would like to read your comments, anyone?

What's a good place to shop for cute, inexpensive young women's clothes in Los Angeles?
Q. I don't like clothes that are overly trendy, but I want to find stuff that's youthful, casual and relatively comfortable without spending too much money. Any suggestions?

A. forever 21, go to the beverly center to the top floor or the grove or santa monica both have one (www.forever21.com). also wet seal has some cheap clothing thats pretty cute (www.wetseal.com). You can try Ross. You can also try Goodwill, they have trendy clothes some even still have the tags on it-the best goodwill i've seen so far is the one on santa monica and stoner ave. Also, Westwood has some clothing stores that are cheap-on westwood blvd across from Bank of America (i forget the names of the store), theres also an excellent bag store right there too and from my experience the price on the tags can be lowered if you act like its too expensive but you really like it, the lady is nice about that. For shoes, i go to Off Broadway on sunset and orange across from In&out-they have a huge selection for discounted prices.

Where can a woman with size 12 WIDE feet find a variety of quality, trendy, comfortable selection of shoes??
Q. I've got big feet... I hate "Coward" and catalogs like it that have a large variety of what I term "old lady shoes". I wear a size 12 wide. Just to give you an idea of what I like - I love my dansko clogs (mens) and birkenstock sandals, but I want something more slighty feminine. I wish I could wear Sketchers...but they're too small. <sigh>

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help!
Brooke :)

Why do British women feel the need to wear preposterous hats to public functions?

Q. American women are far more elegant when they wear a hat. I am thinking of Jackie O who set the standard. And French women know the need for understatement and elegance in headwear. British women wear hats that make them look like a cross between Little Bo Peep and a botannical experiment. Don't they see what clowns they look like or am I missing something here?

A. maybe they wear impractical hats just as we have impractical shoes - infers status (to wear high maintenance, and disposable income on trendy frivolity.)

Where can I find fashionable plus size shoes?

Q. Does anyone know where I can buy either in a store or online trendy plus size shoes like for a size 12 womans foot? Every website I find has real ugly and outdated shoes. HELPP!
anddd... I'm not a monster, I'm just really tall at 6'1 so its hard for me to find tall lengths and bigger shoes =(

A. I believe Payless goes up to a 13. Nordstrom is always a good bet - they started out as a hard to find shoe specialist, way back when, and have kept that aspect of their business up even after re-focusing to fashion.

There are quite a few more listed in our shoe directory, that notes sizes (and widths) at:

What would be appropriate attire for a middle-aged woman to wear to relative's wedding?
Q. My aunt told me my cousin is engaged and the wedding will likely be late summer or early autumn. I assume I will be invited, but I don't know if it will be formal or casual. I don't own any really "dress-up" clothes. The best thing I have right now is a pair of jeans with no holes or tears and a scrub-type top with butterflies on it. Getting me to dress-up is like getting Peppermint Patty to wear a dress. Any suggestions?

A. Arg - Middle age - That's me and it's tough to go shopping, isn't it? You don't want to wear something too young and trendy and end up looking like a "Real Housewife", yet you don't want to look like an old lady wearing Sag Harbor, either. You also want to wear something that you would wear again. Every woman should have a few good staples in her wardrobe. For example, a little black dress. Once you have one, you'll find yourself wearing it all the time.

You can't go wrong with the LBD:

IF you can't hang with the dress idea, consider a pretty pants suit with a colorful top:

Can someone check my oral presentation?

Q. Hello! These are some ideas about fashion. Can you check them? Thank you!

Fashion has always been part of our lives, it defines a person and gives identity. You can also tell the personality or the character of someone just by the clothe.

Fashion has been changing for example in the 60s the fashion icon was Twiggy and it was the time of the mini skirt and which was very controversial. The only thing that made the mini skirt acceptable was the introduction of the pantyhose. Women also used to wear sweaters and flatboots.

Then we have the 70s, represented by punk fashion. This style born as an anarchic and aggressive movement. It was cheap clothe and it used to represent the poor and rebel part of society. Self mutilation and body piercings were the hit. The most important thing for punks was the hair.

Fashion in the 80s was influenced by television and series like Dallas and Dinasty. Suits, t-shirts, a lot of make up and jewellry were the accesories that people used to wear. In the 80s the bigger the better especially in hair styles. Strong colors like blue, pink, red and green were trendy. Blouses were base on romantic looks. And of course we cannot forget the shoulder pads.

The 90s was synonim of blue jeans, t-shirts and jackets. It was the time of the grunge were some people wore old t-shirts and dirty jeans. Others try dress like pop stars using colors like black and pink. The new accesory was the mobile phone.

And now fashion in 2010 is represented by different styles. Most people especially teenagers follow some bands and try to dress like them. There are many urban tribus now that create different styles.

Fashion is part of our culture. And we know that culture evolves so does fashion. We all have our particular style but I think the most important thing is be comfortable and feel confident with the clothe that you wear.

A. Unless you're in the UK, I'd disagree with "70s, represented by punk fashion" (punk style did not go mainstream in the US; very few adopted the look).

In the USA, it was bell bottom pants, lots of denim, lots of muted brown/earth tones (suntan was the #1 shade of pantyhose in the 70's). Very little black, no bright colors (except sky blue), wide lapels, collars, and neck ties. Platform dressy sandals, espadrilles, zippered ankle boots.

From the mini-skirt of the early 70's came the ultra backlash: "Maxi" - coats, skirts, and dresses that went all the way down to the ankle. While flesh toned sheer pantyhose ruled leg wear, one could also spot opaque navy blue tights (no other color of tights but navy, unless you were a little girl).

Think disco fashion - shiny silky shirts with dark but bold abstract designs printed on them. Lycra moved from hosiery to ladies pants (Sasson pants advertised "Lycra adds moving comfort"). Clogs for guys and gals, and platform and higher heels for all. Look up "Halston". He was the best most representative fashion designer in the 1970's.

1980's - Don't forget "BIG HAIR" and crimped (crimping iron) hair styles. Also in the early 80's, bright, very bright colors appeared in sheer pantyhose (yes, pantyhose, not the thicker opaque tights). Never before (and not since) had grown women worn such bright colors on their legs for professional and dressy occasions. The pallete of available colors was remarkable. A lady could easily match her pantyhose to her outfit monochromatically. These colors, once only for little girls and brave artistic types went trully mainstream. As the decade wore on, the variety of colors shrunk, the remaining colors became darker and muted, and flesh tones returned into the mix.

What should I buy for my closet for the upcoming school year?

Q. Im going to be a junior in highschool.. could u guyz suggest to me clothing, shoes, make up items i should have for the upcoming school year. I want trendy suggestions... plz dont tell me just wear what u like.

A. Get some magazines and flip through them. Seventeen is good but it can be kind of annoying because I don't like all the clothes they have in there. Maybe try People StyleWatch too, it's my favorite; it's superthick and has everything from what celebs are wearing to new makeup and everything(: Off the top of my head though o can think of the basics I need: vnecks (these are so popular right now; you can just wear them by itself and be more casual or dress it up with accessories), CARDIGANS (get lots of colors, I have gray, pink, navy, black, and this gorgeous dark purple one; get printed ones tooooo), a brown belt, denim shorts (Hollister/Abercrombie is my favorite place to get these), rompers (sooo cute, wear them with cardigans to schooool), plaid shirt (try American Eagle), high waisted banded skirts, cute scarves (get bright patterns and colors), loooots of jeans (bootcut, skinny, boyfriend, all medium to darkwash), and a cute handbag/tote for school. I'd go with a neutral so brown or black. Also try Forever21 for more tops, they're usually pretty cute.! For shoes get one pair of Vans (more casual but go with your outfits better than tennis
shoes), one pair of Sperrys, one pair of boots (Uggs or ugglook alikes), and looooots of cute
sandals.! For hair just remember to mix it up; go from super straight to side pony to beachy waves.!
Same goes for makeup but keep on mind that the natural makeup look is really in right now.!(: If you're on more of a budget maybe try Plato's Closet, they sell gently used clothes for a discount.! I got a really cute Abercrombie dress there for three dollars and some True Religions for $15.!

What are some good first day of school outfits?
Q. I'm moving out of elementary school and onto Junior High and I want to make a good impression. I'm gonna be in 7th grade. I like to shop at stores like dEliAs, Wet Seal, and Aeropostale. I have a good pair of jean shorts I might wear, but mostly I need, like a colorful blouse or something. I'm open to all suggestions!!

A. oh my gosh girl i'm so excited for you! (: when i was going into seventh grade i was SOOO excited!
i can completely understand why you want to make a good impression.

but anyways, make sure the shorts fit the dress code! because dressing really revealing-ish to school will not start you off well! but as long as they are, lets get started.(:

i would probably wear like a flowy-top! so here's a few examples:
http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=52490&categoryID=1484&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

*also, boho prints are really in style this summer!

http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=53597&categoryID=2162&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

http://www.aeropostale.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4131423&cp=3534618.3534619.3534623.3541050.3536151.1988321

http://www.abercrombiekids.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10101_10851_656377_-1_12155_12103

now, i know that all of these are spaghetti-straps, and that may not be appropriate for your school.
but, you can just pair them with a cute cardigan, or a shrug!

here's some examples:
http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=53540&categoryID=458&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=52741&categoryID=458&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

now, you don't have to get the exact things i recommended, they were just sort a hint on what i would go for if i were you! (:

and for shoes, if you need shoes, i would go with some along these lines:
http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=55151&vid=1&pid=753305&scid=753305052
they have all kinds of colors that would match things, but you don't have to get those exact ones! they're really trendy where i live.
or, i would recommend getting a pair of rainbow flip flops! like these:
http://www.rainbowsandals.com/Color301.aspx i have a pair, and they are still in awesome condition ever since 2008. i have the thin strap ones in the brown, but whatever floats your boat!
i hope you have an awesome year girl! make tons of friends, and don't obsess over boys! (:
have a great time!

What kind of shoes are popular for women and teegnage girls in Sweden?

Q. What is popular in the winter and in the summer?

A. Here is a link to a shoe store in Sweden, even if you can't read Swedish it's easy enough to browse the tabs.
http://dinsko.se/Shop-online/Dam

And you can look at what people in Sweden are wearing here:
http://lookbook.nu/looks#countries/sweden/sort/newest/time/this-month

The styles change every season. People tend to be casual during the day and dress up if they're going out at night. Sneakers are very common in summer (Converse, Adidas, Puma, all the usuals) as well as ballerina slippers and sandals (last year it was the strappy gladiator type). Waterproof boots are sort of a necessity in winter, you'll see very trendy ones in major cities but in rural areas they're often practical rubber ones like wellies. Right now a lot of girls are wearing ankle boots and wedges, some of them open toe. I've also seen a lot of loafers lately.

what are the current trends in clothes shops?

Q. I have a job interview in a clothes shop and was wondering what current fashion trends are.

A. I don't follow women's fashion but I can provide the guys' trends for fall 2012 through summer 2013, or at least how they're predicted to be. This is according to major runway shows in Europe, so trends in American stores or unique shops will vary.

Some general trends: Slim pants/jeans (sometimes skinny), rolled up once or twice, JACKETS, hairstyles that are short on the sides/back and styled on top, accessories like watches and bracelets always make you look more stylish

Fall 2012 has some very light blues and oranges leftover from summer 2012 but they're only thrown in. Mainly, it's getting darker with blacks and grays, occasionally an obscure white or yellow dominated outfit. "A play on fabric" as Armani calls it is trendy, mixing different patterns and fabrics that you wouldn't normally match, as long as they go together in color. Outfits should stay simple and sleek though.

Winter 2012-13 is best described as "dark" and sometimes "tribal" with almost all black, brown and gray on jackets, pants and shoes/belts. Fabric play still revealant: For example, charcoal sweater with leather jacket throw-over.

Spring/summer 2013 should be sleek and include Mediterranean colors not only in just clothes but especially accessories. Like turquoise belts/shoes, bags and shirt accents. "Easter" colors is a good way to put it also. The base colors are blue and green.

What shoes are popular for 2012/now?
Q. I really want to get new shoes I have

I have
sperrys
converse
vans
short boots
tall boots

I was thinking toms maybe? minnetonkas? uggs?

A. I like how you're very into fashion and want to have trending shoes coming into the New Year- Brianna!!

Toms look quite nice and casual (depending on what colour of shoes you buy), but I think they are more for Spring/Summer. I don't think they will be very good at insulating your feet from the cold. (The material that Toms are made out of seem similar to canvas pumps that I wore recently out, which resulted in extremely cold feet.) I don't think you should buy Toms!

I don't like really like the look of Minnetonkas. However, I would buy the shorter Minnetonkas than the taller ones, as you see less of the may vertical string things which I don't like.

They seem to go well with skinning jeans, dark pairs of leggings and tights with jeans shorts, which are fashionable these days.

Out of all three I would by Uggs. They are very trendy (when I'm out and about I always see so many people wear them) and they are very cosy and good for keeping your feet warm.

However if you are type of person that likes to stand out from the crowd and dress up differently to others, when it comes to fashion, Minnetonkas may be the way forward, instead of Uggs. I don't see many people wearing them, so you would certainly stand out!

I Googled Minnetonkas and found a picture of Kate Moss wearing them, so for a model to be wearing them, it mustn't be that ugly!

Maybe you should also buy a pair of black flat shoes or black shoes with a small heels, for formal outfits.

Where can I find cheap whole sale vendors in Chicago and online?

Q. Hello,
I am starting a new business and I am looking for whole sale vendors who have trendy women's clothing, shoes, assessories, and etc. I am opening my shop in Chicago and I do not have an idea as to where I am going to get the goods that I need for my store. If anyone has suggestions that can direct me to a place where I can buy goods at a resonable whole sale price would GREATLY appreciate your response.
Thank you so much for your time,
Jasmine

A. The Chicago Apparel Center is hosting a Women's and Children's show on June 6 to June 9. There is a list of vendors and their showrooms at www2.mmart.com. If you don't have a mart card yet, bring business cards, a letter on your letterhead describing your business, and business credit references to register for the show. Once you receive your mart card, you will be notified of all future shows. If you don't have credit references, you can prepay for orders with a business credit card.

Does anyone know of a website where I can buy clothing for a good looking trendy woman?
Q. My girlfriend is 4' 9'' 80lbs wet, and has measurements of: 32, 24, 31. I'm trying to find her clothes online for our aniversary and having a bit of trouble. I was hoping someone could share some enlightenment.

A. Don't shop for her online because the price may be good, the style my be to her liking, but the fit may be off. I know women that don't even shop online for shoes because of the width factor. Take her shopping and let her have fun, all you do is provide the credit card. Make a big deal out of it, heck take her to New York, from what i hear women love shopping there.

In modern times what qualities does the Japanese culture think of as beautiful in a woman?

Q. im doing an adaptation of every man with Japanese influences. what would the modern Japanese society say constitutes a beautiful person.im looking for a physical description. i know women like to have larger eyes, even having surgery to get them, and some wear contacts that are light. also who in there society would be an extremely wise and knowledgeable person?

A. Japanese female beauty trends and subcultures:

- Large eyes
- thin and well-projected nose bridge
- prominent chin.
- small face
- bleached white teeth
- Thin body, big beasts, hairless body
- Trendy eyebrow looks
- Healthy look
- Jutting shoulders, angled elbows and hips
- crescent eyebrows
- bleached hair
- makeup enhancing the eyes
- modern (western) hairstyles.
- high heel shoes
- Traditional clothing (kimono) made modern
- Nape of the neck is a erotic part of the body
- Cute appearance through frilly or child-like clothing with small body
- High voice
- Some girls imitate animes with over the top dresses and accessories that sometimes contrast strikingly. (Example: Lolita fashion style)
- sexy fit body (meant to be sexual and sassy intimidation for men)
- Goth styles are popular
- miniskirts
- b-girls (Japanese girls wear ethnic clothes and frizzy hair styles common among African Americans. They also tan their bodies)
- certain youth sub-cultures are aimed at shocking or intimidating portraying sexual power

The Japanese view wisdom and silence as more important than knowledge. There emperor is viewed as very wise and knowledgeable but also discreet in his manner. Men are perceived as more wise or knowledgeable than women. The father is still the head of the house and has the most power.

What can of pants can I wear to a wedding?
Q. I'm going to a wedding and as everyone know you have to dress fancy. I am not going to wear a dress! I am looking for fancy pants but I also want them to be a little rockish. I also want them not to cost much. Please help!. Put the store and type of pants!

A. I like your style! Since you want a look that's a little edgy yet still elegant, I would suggest going in one of two ways: 1) silk pants or 2) jumpsuit.

1) If you're super daring, I would suggest going for silk pants. Pair them with a grey top, a black blazer, strappy high heeled sandals and a silver necklace for evening and a light tank, a soft blazer, nude pumps and a gold necklace for day-time:
