How can I dress better without looking like a tool?

Q. I've never taken a deep plunge into fashion, so going all out with the latest would not be in my character. I'll wear skinny jeans, but scarves seem awkward if not for cold weather. I don't really understand how to use accessories, or colors, or matching. I'm also short, so any advice on short guys dressing trendy would be greatly appreciated.

A. shirts = plain white tees, graphic tees (no logos if possible), & the occasional abercrombie shirt (dont overdo it tho, or you'll look like a douchebag!)

jeans = anything! guys can pull off virtually any style, so dont limit yourself. heres some inspiration: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/category_full_fashion_guide.jsp?catId=cat130130 -skinny jeans are tricky to pull off, so try on a lot of styles before you buy

NO fashion scarfs! please leave those to women

shoes = you can go with skater vans: http://shop.vans.com/catalog/Vans/en_US/product/men/skate-shoes/widow-men.html

the universally loved converse: http://www.converse.com/?CSID=212#/s/products/collections/specialcollection7 (high or low tops)

or (depending on the occasion) a flip flop: http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=abercrombie

for hoodies and jackets, there are many looks you can go with.

skater = vans, element, fox (you can buy these brands at Pacsun)

beachy-casual = abercrombie, hollister, aeropostle

preppy = the gap

Where can I get the latest Rom and Intellisync for the SL5500?

Switching to skirts, and I have a couple questions?

Q. My mom and I are going to a Baptist church and now my mom is saying that I'm no longer aloud to wear pants. The bible says that pants are mens clothing and women are not to wear mens clothing. So I was just curious about a few things. In the winter, will people think we are crazy for wearing skirts? Will it look weird for me to wear my converse (they're my favorite shoes!!) with skirts? Oh, and any tips to accesorize or any tips period? Personal experience? Thank you all so much!!

A. Hey!!! God Bless You!! My name is Lissette and it's a pleasure to be able to help you!

1. I don't know where you live, but it is quite fashionable to wear skirts during the winter time. You can wear it with black stockings, belts, necklaces (jewelry), scarves, hats, trench coats, etc.

2. Quite honestly, you should not wear your converse with skirts everyday. You can look for some cute flats which can be very comfortable (no heels) and will match better with your outfit. Here are some sites that illustrate ways to incorporate your converse into your wardrobe:
http://www.chictopia.com/photo/show/124739-I+see+something+in+your+future-landmark-top-sm-surplus-skirt-converse-shoes-target-accessories-bracelet

Neutrals go well with ANY color in your outfit:
Black, brown, khaki, gray, denim, white, navy.

What are good websites for teen girls?
Q. I need a website that is good for teen girls. I could be a virtual world, a magazine website, a game website, a fashion website, ect. It would be great if the website had games or if it was virtual but anything will do. It would also be cool if it was a designing web site. Thanks!

2011 back to school fashion?

Q. i was wondering what are the musts for back to school, im going in to 8th grade?? like what is the big thing this year?? and when i go back to school shopping what should i get?? okk thanks!

A. I'm going to 8th too! *High Fives* :)

Must haves:

Jeans- (2-3), in a style you like. Skinny jeans are trendy, but bootcuts are making a comeback.

Shorts- (2-3), for summer. Mix up the types of fabric, like don't stick with denim. Bright colors are really in, so I suggest getting maybe 2 pairs in a cool color like yellow/red. You can wear these with a plain, tucked in top with a skinny belt. Super cute!

Skirts- (2), go for ruffles and florals, kinda like what I said about the shorts.

Cardigans- (2-3), go for a plain white/black/grey one that you can wear with anything, then 1-2 in a fun bright color! Cardigans can dress up and down outfits, and are a nice touch to just about any outfit.

Tops- (Go crazy). You can never have enough! Don't forget the basic camis. Lace, ruffles, crop tops, and florals are really in right now. Also, to go with the trendy bohemian look, try flowy tops with a cool cut. Off the shoulder tops are also cute, especially when they're cropped.

Trends this year:

Color blocking: This is when you use a bright color to spruce up an outfit, for example wearing a bright red shoe with a plain black outfit. Fun colors are awesome, don't be afraid of them though!

Bohemian: Braids, florals, drapery, you know it.

Tribal: Tribal prints are really big, as well as feathers- as earrings, in your hair, etc.

Check out stores like Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe. They have super trendy clothing, for pretty good prices.

Hope this helped!

Key fashion for spring/summer 11?
Q. What would you say is essential for this season.
What colour dresses for parties green?
Hair accesories?
Makeup?
What sort of shoes?
Shorts/skirts/dresses?
High waist trousers/ jeans?
Hairstyles?
What are you moat excited about this season and bulid a outfit at the bottom which you think best reptesnts this season and get 10 poits
And what will you be wearing

A. I did a complete guide on spring fashion trends on the runways:
http://heyyysunshine.blogspot.com/2011/02/spring-2011-runway-highlights-trends.html

Out of all of these trends my favorite would have to be the feminine look. I love ruffles, lace, florals, and volume! I think the pretties color of the season is Pantone's 2011 Color of the Year: Honeysuckle. Flatforms have made a huge comeback but I don't know if I can pull them off instead I'll just go with a trendy wedge or cute pointed flats. Fuller skirts, high-waisted shorts, and a sheath or shirt dresses pulled together with a cinch belt would be a cute look i might wear. Dainty flower hair accessories would be a nice touch in a tousled back messy bun. I hear that going darker, golden, or reddish is hot this season so I think I'm going to get golden highlights to lighten up my look! I'm not so sure with make up but I know that with nail polish hot colors are like an earthy color (essie st. tropez) and a tiffany box or robin's egg blue.

Help me fashionably pack for 4 months?

Q. So this a weird question, I am going for 4 months, to Paris and Dubai. Two cities where i want to look the best and most fashionable i can. What I am kind of asking for is suggestions of must haves for spring/summer 2013.
Guys i've been to dubai before, it's not really conservative for foreigners, and it's not like I'm planning on walking around in a bikini! I am asking about trends and fashion essentials in your opinion. I don't know but 4 months is scary to pack!

A. I would take maxi dresses (not low cut) for Dubai with coordinating cropped jackets. The big hotels in Dubai are somewhat conservative but if you want to go to a marketplace, it is much more conservative.

For Paris, you need neutral pants with cute tops and at least one little black dress that you can dress up or down with accessories. Parisian women dress up more than Americans or Brits so take some heels and/or wedge shoes as well as flats for touring around and walking a lot.

For both places, I would look for clothing that combines tangerine and deep pink, the light aqua spearmint color, and a darker blue that is between navy and cobalt. Also, white shoes and handbags are trendy for this summer but difficult to keep clean when traveling. Have fun!! : }

Makeup that will make me look a bit older?
Q. I went to a party and was promptly kicked out on the accusation that I presented a fake ID , and I'm 20 but look 15. Is there any makeup or something that will make me look a bit older?

A. Steps

1. Take care of yourself by washing regularly, using deodorant, and, for women, try to do your makeup as often as possible.
2. Fix your eyebrows. Some surveys say that when your eyebrows are done and put together, you can look more mature and therefore, look older.
3. Wear sophisticated looking clothes. This doesn't mean that you have to wear a suit everyday, but stay tuned to trends that suit your age or the age you want to look. Stay away from pastels such as bubblegum pink, light blue, sea green etc. Men should avoid baseball caps and baggy jeans.
4. Consult with a hair stylist. Give a brief summary of your situation or just simply ask for a "mature cut". Look towards more trendy hairstyles. Someone who follows trends generally is or appears to be older. That said, you shouldn't be reading seventeen magazines. Start reading InStyle, Allure, People, Cosmopolitan or Vogue.
5. Work on the way you appear to people, such as personality traits and characteristics.
6. Listen to others. People who are good listeners appear more mature.
7. Be comfortable when talking to people who are older than you.
8. Act calm, and handle things in a reserved manner.
9. Show cleavage appropriately, wear heels, and wear a watch.
10. Dress like the age group you want to fit into. Buy clothes that fit you, not ones that are popular. Avoid Abercrombie, Hollister, and American Eagle because they are symbols of teen style unless you are younger you may. Do not wear plastic flip flops. Chic leather sandals are a good investment because they will usually compliment your feet, make you look richer, make you look older, and complete an outfit.
11. Try to be more put together on a daily basis. Focus on cute shoes and accessories.
12. Wearing a Vera Bradley Bag, colorful Coach bag, or any other colorful purse will make you look instantly younger. If you want to look older, look for more neutral colored handbags. Look for leather, for some reason the older you become, the more leather you own.
13. Women: Wear Makeup. If you are a young woman, only use a little and learn to do it properly. If you overdo your makeup, you'll look more like you've raided your older aunt's makeup drawer than a mature woman! Learn to properly apply makeup to suit your face and fashion needs.
14. Care For Your Skin. If you have acne, do something about it. Go on medication, have a skin clearing regimen.
15. Keep up with current events. It is true that not all adults keep up with current events and it is almost impossible to keep up with all current events. But watch the news once in awhile. It can impress on others that you are aware of world affairs and are capable of staying current.
16. Make the first changes understated. If you transition gracefully, no one should notice much of a change
17. Act mature. If you are all over the place, and hyper and peppy all of the time, you will seem childish no matter what you're wearing.
18. Be careful with your speech. Use proper English. If you're using a lot of slang, swears, and stammering words like, "ummm", "you know", you will not sound like a mature man or woman. Avoid saying "like" every two words. Enhance your vocabulary; if you speak eloquently you will be perceived as more mature.
19. Choose a mature role model to emulate. Pick an actor, musician, or other public figure who is your age or a few years older that projects a sophisticated image. The way he or she dresses, speaks, walks, and acts can help you understand how a mature persona acts.

Tips

*
1. If the people in a given store all look much older than you, you may be dressing too young. Find out where your peers shop.
2. If you're petite, buy petite clothing rather than shopping at the "Misses'" section.
3. If you're a woman, don't shop in the "Junior's" section if you are over 18 or so. That section is for teenagers, not young women.

Job Interview Question?

Q. I have a job interview scheduled for Monday and was sent a conformation email. In it, it said:

Please dress in casual attire, but be aware that appearance is important and will be considered when reviewing you as a candidate.

I always wear a pair of slacks, a button up shirt, a tie, and dress shoes to interviews, but would this be too formal? I always figured it was best to go into an interview overdressed formally even if the job would call for more casual attire.

Should I wear what I always do to interviews to this one or something less formal like a polo shirt? Oh, and this is a job at a home and garden store.

A. Business casual guidelines for men and women
Business casual is crisp, neat, and should look appropriate even for a chance meeting with a CEO. It should not look like cocktail or party or picnic attire. Avoid tight or baggy clothing; business casual is classic rather than trendy.
Basics:
Khaki pants, neatly pressed, and a pressed long-sleeved, buttoned solid shirt are safe for both men and women. Polo/golf shirts, unwrinkled, are an appropriate choice if you know the environment will be quite casual, outdoors or in a very hot location. This may not seem like terribly exciting attire, but you are not trying to stand out for your cutting edge look, but for your good judgment in a business environment.
Shoes / belt:
Wear a leather belt and leather shoes. Athletic shoes are inappropriate.
Cost / quality:
You are not expected to be able to afford the same clothing as a corporate CEO. However, do invest in quality that will look appropriate during your first two or three years on the job for a business casual environment or occasions.
Details:
Everything should be clean, well pressed, and not show wear. Even the nicest khakis after 100 washings may not be your best choice for a reception. Carefully inspect new clothes for tags, and all clothes for dangling threads, etc. (as with interview attire).
Use common sense.
If there are six inches of snow on the ground and/or you are rushing to get to an information session between classes and you left home 12 hours earlier, no one will expect you to show up looking ready for a photo shoot — they'll just be happy you made it. Just avoid wearing your worst gym clothes and jeans. If you show up at an event and realize you're not as well dressed as you should be, make a quick, pleasant apology and make a good impression with your interpersonal skills and intelligent questions.

Specifics for men's business casual
Ties:
Ties are generally not necessary for business casual, but if you are in doubt, you can wear a tie. It never hurts to slightly overdress; by dressing nicely, you pay a compliment to your host. You can always wear the tie and discreetly walk by the room where the function is held; if no one else is wearing a tie, you can discreetly remove yours.
Shirts:
Long-sleeved shirts are considered dressier than short-sleeved and are appropriate even in summer. Choosing white or light blue solid, or conservative stripes is your safest bet. Polo shirts (tucked in, of course) are acceptable in more casual situations.
Socks:
Wear dark socks, mid-calf length so no skin is visible when you sit down.
Shoes:
Leather shoes should be worn. No sandals, athletic shoes or hiking boots.
Facial hair:
Just as with interviews: Facial hair, if worn, should be well-groomed. Know your industry and how conservative it is; observe men in your industry if you are unsure what's appropriate or are considering changing your look.
Jewelry:
Wear a conservative watch. If you choose to wear other jewelry, be conservative. Removing earrings is safest. For conservative industries, don't wear earrings. Observe other men in your industry to see what is acceptable.

Specifics for women's business casual
Don't confuse club attire with business attire. If you would wear it to a club, you probably shouldn't wear it in a business environment. Also, most attire worn on televison is not appropriate for business environments. Don't be deluded.
Pants / skirts:
Women can wear casual pants or skirts. Neither should be tight. Fabrics should be crisp; colors should generally be solid; navy, black, gray, brown and khaki are always safe bets. For the most business-like appearance, pants should be creased and tailored; neither extreme of tight or flowing. If you are pursuing a conservative industry and are in doubt, observe well-dressed women in your industry on the job, at career fairs, at information sessions, etc.
Skirt length and slits:
Your skirt should come at least to your knees while you are standing. While you are seated, your thighs should be covered. If your skirt comes to just below the knee, a slit to just above the knee might be acceptable. A very long skirt should not be slit to above the knee. Generally slits in the center back of a skirt — to facilitate walking a stair climbing — are acceptable. Slits to facilitate a view of your legs are not appropriate for business purposes. Slips should not be visible.
Shirt / sweaters:
In addition to tailored shirts or blouses, tailored knit sweaters and sweater sets are appropriate business casual choices for women. Cotton, silk, and blends are appropriate. Velvets and shimmery fabrics suitable for parties are not appropriate. Fit should not be tight. Cleavage is not appropriate to business and job search occasions.
Jewelry / accessories:
Wear a conservative watch. Jewelry and scarf styles come and go. Keep your choices simple and leaning toward conservative. Avoid extremes of style and color. If your industry is creative, you may have more flexibility than someone pursuing a conservative industry.
Cosmetics:
Keep makeup conservative and natural looking. A little is usually better than none for a polished look. Nails should be clean and well groomed. Avoid extremes of nail length and polish color, especially in conservative industries.
Shoes:
Should be leather or fabric / microfiber. Appropriate colors are black, navy and brown (to coordinate with your other attire and accessories); white and pastels are not appropriate. For the most conservative look, toes should be covered. Sandals which are neither extremely dressy or extremely casual might be appropriate. Thin straps and high heels are not appropriate. Chunky heels and platforms are not apropriate. Make certain you can walk comfortably in your shoes; hobbling around a job fair in shoes that are pinching your feet does not convey a professional image.
Hose:
Not essential for business casual, but are recommended if your skirt is knee length (rather than calf length) and in more formal environments such as hotels.
Purse / bag:
If you carry a purse, keep it small and simple, or carry a small briefcase or business-like tote bag in place of a purse. A structured bag tends to look more professional that something soft or floppy. Purse/bag color should coordinate with your shoes. A briefcase is certainly not necessary for most business casual events. Leather, microfiber and fine wovens are appropriate. Canvas and straw are not appropriate.

Grooming tips for men and women
Hair:
Should be clean and neat.
Shoes:
Should be in polished condition. Make sure heels are not worn.
Details:
No missing buttons, no lint; and don’t forget to remove external tags and tacking stitches from new clothes.
Hands:
Clean fingernails.
Fit:
Clothes should be clean, neatly pressed, and fit properly, neither tight nor baggy.
Smell:
Perfume or cologne should be used sparingly or not at all.
No odors on clothes.
Don't smell like smoke.
Padfolios:
Preferred over a bulky briefcase. A small briefcase is also appropriate, but if you have no reason to carry a briefcase, don't; you risk looking silly.
Bookbags:
Appropriate to carry to an information session held on campus (after all, you are a student). For career fairs and job fairs, bookbags are generally checked at the door, and you should carry a padfolio only.
Don't carry a bookbag to an event held at a hotel.

I have big feet. How am I to find a pair of descent, good-looking shoes with feet as big as mine??

Q. It's like this, I go to a shoe store & all of he shoes there are so trendy and everything. So, for feet as big as mine, I cant find one that I'm satisfied with. I wear sport shoes to school. And that ain't comfortable.

A. YOU DIDN'T SAY WHAT SIZE AND IT'S NOT NECESSARY FOR ME TO KNOW. GO ONLINE AND TRY MASON SHOES, MORDSTROM'S, CLOUD CLIMBERS, LANE BRYANT AND FOR DISCOUNT SHOES AND BOOTS TRY JESSICA LONDON. EACH COMPANY LISTED HAS CATALOGS ONLINE AND IN PAPER. THE SIZES RANGE FROM NARROW TO EXTRA WIDE AND THEY HAVE YOUNG UP TO DATE SELECTIONS FOR THE MOST PART. THERE ARE SOME SPECIALTY SHOE STORES OUT HERE TOO. JUST BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF AND SURF THE NET. TRY "LARGE SIZE SHOES FOR WOMEN" FOR INITIAL WEB SEARCH AND TAKE IT FROM THERE.

Are there any other nice places to shop for CUTE plus size clothes?
Q. Hi there, I am a Lane Bryant and Torrid fan. I can also find cute clothes at Nordstrom's and Macy's. However, I am not interested in looking like anyone's Granny. Any ideas on other places or websites that sell cute plus size clothes that are well made?

Thanks!

A. I feel your pain! I usually find great clothes at those stores, but some of them aren't my style. I can usually find great basic pieces... like dress pants, button up shirts, and jeans at Macy*s and Lane Bryant but I like the hip stuff too!

In my area, these are the places I go to...

Goody's. Believe it or not, they have a small section in the Plus Size women's department called Junior Plus. I bought some of my favorite summer outfits from there this year. They usually have the trendy stuff, too! I like their summer tops and shorts!

Ross. If you have one of these near you, I suggest that you go! Their Woman's World section usually has a bunch of clothes for the older lady, but they also have a lot of cute style clothes. I got some really cute hoodies and tops there this fall. When I go there, I usually find 90430344909085 things or NOTHING. It can really be hit or miss. If you take the time to look through each hanger, you will find some cute stuff. They go up to a size 4X too. Oh, and check out their dresses! They have a ton of dresses in Plus Size!

Cato. There is a Cato right down the road from me. They have Petite and Plus. What is cool is that anything that they have in Petite... they have the same exact thing in Plus. I hate going by a window and being like... "That outfit is so cute!" only to find out that it only goes up to a size 12. :( Again, you really have to look through the racks, but I have bought some nice stuff there. Also, they have a shoe section with plenty of wides and size 9, 10, 11.

Fashion Bug. While their stuff is usually lower quality, they do gear a lot of their clothes to the younger crowd. They usually have awesome dresses and stuff. I have a hard time finding dresses for weddings and events like that, but Fashion Bug has come through for me a lot. And they have cute underwear, especially if you like thongs and boyshorts.

Believe it or not, I do like to shop at Wal*Mart and Target sometimes. I find great basics like velvet pant suits, long sleeve t-shirts, and capris/shorts.

OldNavy. They used to have a better selection in the store, but they have gone exlusively online for their Plus Sizes. If you know what size you are, then you can shop there. I try not to buy online because I like to try something on, but I am really familiar with their sizes. OldNavy is probably one of my favorite places for summer clothing.

Those are my usual spots! I wish you luck because I know how hard it is to find something that looks cute and is flattering to our body type! Good luck!

Can Someone Tell Me How to choose shoes?

Q. I don't mean how to pick a sneaker or a regular shoe (I know that already). I mean the shoes that you wear with your suit (or tuxedo). Can someone give me some tips? Thank You.
And also tell me where I can buy the shoes? Thank You.
And also tell me where I can buy the shoes? Thank You.

A. Buy something with a rounded pointed toe with minimal detail. And it has to be black, and buff them up with a shoe care kit before you go. Balance the shininess of the shoe with the shininess of your suit.

Also, be aware that the amount you spend will be pretty visible in the quality of leather so don't skimp out—don't pretend that cos some people can't tell the difference that the difference is invisible. Also, wear your suit pants when you go to try them on if not your whole suit.

Go to a men's shoe specialist, especially if its run by some old guy and the store looks out of date. Buy something made in Italy or England. You may buy something made in Portugal but reference it against the made in Italy stuff because they do make some pretty cheap looking shoes there too. Look for depth in the leather. You're probably looking at upwards of 280USD. Buy a brogue (safe) or a boot that goes just above your ankle if you trust your judgement on this, but both with laces. I've seen people do a loafer but I think it brings the tone down unless its a summer party outdoors and you don't wear socks and you wear a cropped slim fit suit pant.

You could go with something cheaper and it'll probably last you the night and look fine. Just buying cheap shoes is much more difficult and they never last long—I couldn't give you a buying guide over yahooanswers as it would be too long. Buying something at the 280usd bracket, if you're lucky can last you 5 years plus with some repairs and winds up being better value.

Have a look on the Sartorialist if you need some inspiration, just beware of going for something too trendy as a classic look is always a good look for men.

Oh! And I almost forgot, wear them a bunch before the actual night as it takes a while for the leather to break in. If you don't, you'll be hobbling around and have no fun

What kind of shoes are popular for women and teegnage girls in Sweden?
Q. What is popular in the winter and in the summer?

A. Here is a link to a shoe store in Sweden, even if you can't read Swedish it's easy enough to browse the tabs.
http://dinsko.se/Shop-online/Dam

And you can look at what people in Sweden are wearing here:
http://lookbook.nu/looks#countries/sweden/sort/newest/time/this-month

The styles change every season. People tend to be casual during the day and dress up if they're going out at night. Sneakers are very common in summer (Converse, Adidas, Puma, all the usuals) as well as ballerina slippers and sandals (last year it was the strappy gladiator type). Waterproof boots are sort of a necessity in winter, you'll see very trendy ones in major cities but in rural areas they're often practical rubber ones like wellies. Right now a lot of girls are wearing ankle boots and wedges, some of them open toe. I've also seen a lot of loafers lately.

Is there such thing as Trendy Orthopedic Athletic shoes?

Q. I'm a 34 year old woman who works in a business casual setting. Can anyone help with finding trendy orthopedic shoes? My Dr says I need to wear gym shoes while treating my planter faciitis but it seems difficult to accessorize around the New Balance shoes??? Puma is trendy but are they ok? I'm going to ask my Dr about them but thought I may get an answer here first. Help please?! Most styles are just too u-g-l-y!

A. Hi,

This question is the reason so many retailers of orthopedic shoes have trouble selling their products to consumers. The answer is quite simple -- yes! Nowadays, orthopedic shoe manufacturers have started bringing in shoe designers to update their shoes. In fact, they try to mirror the current styles of ordinary shoes as much as possible, while preserving the qualities and features that make them orthopedic.

If you are looking for a place to start your search for stylish orthopedic shoes, check out brands such as Orthaheel, Aetrex, Ecco, and Propet.

When should males start buying from mens?

Q. I am 5 feet tall. my shoe size is 6.5, but i always wear a half size bigger so that i can make them last longer while i get newer shoes so i can have alot of them. And one more thing, whats the difference between Kids, Juniors, and Men. not really kids, andmen, but how is juniors different from men and kids and what is it? Also i'm turning 13 next month

A. My personal feeling is that you should star buying men's clothes when you start high school. This includes both men's departments, and also stores meant for both teens and young adults, like American Eagle and the like.

Also, in a department store, the differences are something like
Kids = for little kids
Juniors = trendy crap
Men's/Ladies = a variety of clothes meant for adults, or teenagers who prefer classics over weird fads and trends, but you have to find what's right for you because these sections have things meant for 15-year-olds all the way to things meant for 100-year-olds.

How do you dress cute, but not girly?

Q. I work with a lot of older women, and I want to dress professional but not boring but not childish either because I want to be taken seriously
Like the girls on the Hills but not as expensive. They dress cute but not childish or slutish right?

A. 1] buy clothes that flatter your figure and coloring, not just 'hot' items
2] buy things that coordinate without being to matchy-matchy
[ like brown leather jacket with brown tweed top of knee skirt = cute and professional, but not girly or boring ]
3] trends in tops usually blend into office wear better than any 'funky' [ puddle pants, very high waists, skinny jeans, micro minis, hooker stilettos, sky high platforms ] bottoms or shoes. They are also cheaper, overall!
4] add some interesting belts to a 'boring' outfit - chain, lace, velvet, patent leather, woven, crocodile.
5] wear interesting shoes - different heel heights, colors, textures, [ velvet, quilted, etc. ]. No open toes, or sandals.
6] wear trendy costume jewelry [ not juvenile! ]. Avoid plastic beads, etc. Try various precious metals, and modern set stones for rings, earrings.
7] grown up hair - ponytail with a barette - yes, with a scrunchie or banana clip - no; pigtails - no.
french braid or single braid - yes, double braids - no
pulled back with barette or leather or fabric band - yes, plastic headband - no.

What are pretty but inexpensive brands of clothing for young adult women?
Q. I have so many old clothes that I want to donate which came from who knows where. Preferably a brand not as mainstream as Forever 21 and H&M, I know of those places. I live in California if that helps at all.

A. Have you ever tried the more "trendy" thrift stores? Sometimes you can find really good deals there. I live in California too. What's popular here is a store called Buffalo Exchange. I don't know what part of California you are in, but in So-cal there is one in Fullerton. And one in Long Beach. Up north, I only know of one in Berkeley. I know there is many more.
Here's their website: http://www.buffaloexchange.com/

There is also a store called La Bomba, but that is only in So-Cal I think.

They have really... vintagey Forever 21 looking, but better clothing. Sometimes they are pricey, but it depends on the item of clothing. Jackets are usually the most expensive things in the store. It is a thrift store though, so everything is gently used. Also, if you have old clothes to get rid of, you can take em to Buffalo Exchange. How it works there is a worker will look through your clothes and determine if they want to buy them from you. They are really picky about clothing, but they will buy your clothes if deemed "fashionable" enough for re-sale. It's a really hipstery place, though. They get a little cocky and will totally judge your style.

Also, have you tried Ross? Sometimes, their clothes are just ugly, but you can also find great cheap jeans there, sometimes cute shoes or tops as well.

Has anyone made money on ebay?
Q. basically, what i want to do is buy quality clothes and shoes from thrift stores and resell them on ebay. aftering shipping and fees, it would appear at first glance to not be that profitable. has anyone tried doing this?

A. I've been doing exactly that part-time since March 2011, and by January 2012 I had made PowerSeller and Top-Rated Seller. There's an entire group of people on the eBay discussion boards (clothing category) who do this, many full-time.

It's not a get-rich-quick scheme, but if you are dedicated to it and have good thrift stores in your area, it is a get-rich-slow scheme. You have to come up with what works for you. I tend to sell what I personally like, which is classic styles in larger women's sizes (12 to 3X). Some sellers have good luck with expensive name brands, trendy teens' jeans and sneakers, baby clothes, or whatever. Good luck!

Why do girls jump on the bandwagon for ugly clothes?

Q. 1st- it was uggs, now its boat shoes, now its toms. Why do girls jump on the bandwagon & buy things when there not even cute? Is it just to follow the trend? Im a girl btw. Tell me these arent ugly: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/toms-classic-canvas-slip-on-women/3062809?origin=keywordsearch&resultback=4489
http://www.getoutsideshoes.com/uploads/sperry%2054w.jpg
Plus their like $60 worth of uglyness lol let me stop before some one gets offended
Your right. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But i guarantee you 80%-90% of the girls who have these shoes only bought them cause they saw they were a trend or cause some celebrity had them on

A. i've been wondering the same thing. Just because things are 'in style' doesn't mean they actually look good. I guess some girls actually think they are cute, but most probably just like they are trendy.
I personally don't care about trends as long as the clothes are cute and comfortable.

Job Interview at American Eagle Outfitters?
Q. Okay, so I'm 16 and I'm a guy and I have a job interview at the local American Eagle this Friday. I'm wicked nervous because this will be my first job/job interview. So I've got a few questions.

~What should I wear? I was thinking a green A.E. shirt, not tucked in and mostly buttoned except at the top and bottom, with a similarly green t-shirt underneath and some lite-colored khaki shorts. Also, is it fine if I wear skate shoes? Specifically, Lakai that are purple and grey... Or should I wear brown boat shoes that I wear for school? These are basically dress shoes because I have to wear a suit to school every day.

~What kind of questions will they be asking? Like I understand the basics like: "Why do you wanna work here?" "What makes you stand out from the other applicants?" etc. I've already had like a "mini" interview with a lady who had been working there for a long time and she asked me a few of these, but she wasn't the hiring manager. She said that she would make sure that I got an interview, which I did.

~What are some of the key aspects that they're looking for in a sales associate, there? I'm really outgoing and I love interacting with people.

~Should I get a hair cut? My hair isn't obscenely long. I got a school with an extremely strict dress code so my hair is neat. But it's not like a typical-preppy hair cut. It's kinda long. It's kinda short on the sides but I've got bangs that go down to my eyes and then kinda go to the side. As much as I don't want to describe it this way, it's somewhat similar to Justin Beiber's... :(

Thanks:)

A. When you are dressing for a job interview, image really is everything (or most of it). The image you present to a potential employer is the first thing they are going to notice about you - before you even have a chance to say a word or shake a hand.

In order to make a good first impression, you need to dress professionally and separate your social image (if it's more casual, and it probably is) from your professional presence.

How to Dress for an Interview
Why it's always important to dress professionally for a job interview and what to wear.

What Not to Wear on a Job Interview

•Flip-flops or sneakers.
•Underwear (bras, bra straps, briefs, boxers, etc.) that is visible. Don't wear any underwear that shows - even if your bra straps match your top.
•Shorts.
•Jeans.
•Skirts that are too short.
•Pants that are too low-rise or too tight.
•Blouses that are too low-cut or too short - don't show your cleavage or your belly.
•More on underwear and low-rise pants - make sure the top of your thong, if you wear one, doesn't show above your pants.
Trendy vs. Classic

•A classic interview suit that will last for years is a better investment than the latest trendy attire that will only last a season.
•Your idea of trendy might not match the interviewer's perspective on what's fashionable, so err on the side of dressing conservatively when you interview.
•Shop Wisely - Visit outlets, shop sales, shop online, and use coupons to get the most mileage out of your interview budget.
•Plan Ahead - If you have that one classic interview suit in your closet, you'll be prepared for an unexpected interview, regardless of when it occurs.
Your Professional Presence

•Your Social vs. Your Professional Presence - What you wear off-the-job and socially doesn't have to be what you wear interviewing or at work. In fact, your professional presence may be very different from personal presence, and that's fine. They don't have to mesh - you can have a closet full of fun clothes and a wardrobe of work clothes.
•Perfume and Cologne - Your scent (even if you smell good) can be an issue. I once worked for some who wouldn't hire anyone he could smell from across the room. Also, scent is one of the strongest senses and your favorite perfume or cologne might be the same scent the interviewer's ex-girlfriend or ex-husband wore. That subliminal negative impact could squash your chances of getting a job offer. With any type of scent, less, or none, is better.
•Pantyhose - The question of whether women should wear pantyhose on a job interview created a lot of discussion on this site and the answer was overwhelmingly yes.
•Tattoos and Piercings - Depending on where you are interviewing, you may want to consider covering your tattoos and taking out your rings. There are companies that have policies which limit both.
•Starting Your New Job - If you're not sure what to wear on the job, ask the hiring manager before you start. You can also visit the workplace to see what the people coming in and out of the building are wearing. There is no better way to make a bad impression than to show up for your first day because you're underdressed or overdressed.

What is a good way to jazz up some old (but not outdated) outfits?

Q. I was going through my wardrobe and I have great outfits but I know that everyone has seen me wear them. I normally don't accessorize them and I was thinking about doing so. Is it best to colour match the accessories but not necessarily to the outfit (but have the colours co-ordinate)? I'm new to accessorizing so any help would be great!

A. You could buy a fabulous pair of trendy shoes...I've always heard that if your shoes are great, then no one pays special attention to your clothes....they are too busy staring at your feet. A large trendy purse/tote might do the trick too. It is easy to accessorize with shoes and purses if you aren't used to accessorizing with belts and jewlery.

Thoughts about the woman pulled off the South West Airlines Flight?

Q. I'm curious to hear opinions of the young lady who was pulled off the SouthWest Airlines flight because her outfit was too revealing. The pictures of her, wearing her skirt and top were I thought not out of the norm, she was tall, blonde and a bit busty but nothing at all revearling about her top and her skirt was low to mid thigh. They actually showed some of the older SW Airline flight attendents from the 70's wearing hot pants on CNN today. Curious to hear opinions, because this woman was dressed nicely and I have seen some pretty poorly dressed people not get a second look. Think that jealously had anything to do with it?
I only saw the picture of her that was shown on the media. She looks fine in it and didn't have a tank top on, she had a top and sweater. My understanding was that it was a female passenger who complained after the boarded the plane and that she was given a blanket to cover herself after getting back on.

A. I offer 2 opinions on the topic of personal appearance in public places -

1. Airlines (Buses, Cruise ships, Railroads, etc) have the right to demand certain standards of conduct (or appearance)of passengers, and sometimes enforce that right when passengers or the airline would be harmed. In this case, however, I have heard that another passenger complained to the airline, and caused this situation to arise.
I have no idea what gives one passenger the right to judge the lady's clothing, this seems to be hypocritical and surely could have been resolved by moving the complaining passenger to a seat out of view of the young lady, and offering a blindfold to the complaining passenger.
Since the airline crew now had to intervene quickly, in order to let the flight take off on time, and keep the peace, perhaps it was easiest at the moment to do what SW did, right or wrong. On the other hand (with my perfect hindsight), if I were the air crew, I would have told BOTH passengers to get off and let them battle it out in court for being involved in a dispute of a nature unable to be resolved in a timely manner.

Opinion #2: On personal pride of appearance AND tolerance (or lack of tolerance), what ever happened to these things?
It used to be that far fewer people (slobs, etc) went out in public place dressed badly. I am not talking about dressing in a unique, trendy way, but plain out wearing ragged, dirty smelly clothing, etc. I once sat (in first class cabin, Dallas to London) way too close to a young couple and baby, dressed in worn-out jeans, tattered plain white-T shirts, cheap shower shoes, etc and the toddler wearing only a diaper and some kind of sleeping clothes, barely enough to keep it from catching cold. Granted that your clothing choices can be limited by your income and budget, but if you have the means to fly in first-class cabin to London, surely you could afford to dress better than that? On tolerance, YES, I thought to myself that if I had the power, I would tell that couple to dress more appropriately for the occasion, but of course I realized that I do NOT have that power, so I just kept my mouth shut, put on my headset, listened to the music, and enjoyed the flight.

Ok, open for debate, I would like to read your comments, anyone?

What are the most popular teen stores right now?

Q. I'm 14 and I need a new wardrobe! I have no style :( What stores are really popular? What types of clothing are "in"? I have about $300 of birthday money to spend. Thanks everybody!!!!!

A. Definitely forever21 for cheap clothes and on trend stuff.
Wetseal is pretty cheap and similar to forever21, and so is Love Culture.
Try nordstrom (rack) for great quality pieces. If you go to a regular nordstrom, though, the stuff is so expensive :o
Free People and Brandy Melville are super popular right now (and they have a lot of "in" stuff), but both are a bit pricier than your typical mall store.
If you are willing to wear second hand clothes, try Plato's Closet - its like a thrift store but a bit more expensive because it only carries brand name clothes that are in trend right now. Its still way cheaper than the original prices even though its more expensive that somewhere like Goodwill or a consignment shop.
Tilly's, Francesca's, Kohl's, Macy's, Charlotte Russe, Aeropostale, delias, Old Navy or Gap, Garage (♥), and Zara are some other places to try.Target has everything - makeup, accessories, school supplies, and clothes so I would recommend at least checking that out. And the prices are really good too!

Clothing trends are:
Jumpers/pullovers are supposedly going to be in for winter, paired with jeans or leggings.
Cardigans are always great :D
Oxblood/burgundy/maroon is the color of this fall/winter so pick up some stuff in that color for this school year. I have a pair of jeans in this color that I love. So soft, and the shade is perfect! http://www.joefresh.com/en/product/corduroy-jean-5
Tribal prints were in for summer and spring, but I think as we transition into fall not many people are going to be wearing tribal prints any more. Same with colored jeans and neon pants.
Flannel and plaid shirts are definitely in. Just button downs in general.
Flowy tops are trendy right now, something like this: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=2371_9891_131 I would pair this with a scarf and skinny jeans and any type of shoe as an outfit :D
Peter pan collared tops were in this summer, not sure if they will stay for the whole school year.
Patterned, like floral or polka dotted jeans, are trendy right now. You can get really cute ones at AE.
BLAZERS! Especially for the chilly days in fall, I would get a fitted blazer for school.
Definitely combat boots and riding boots. Furry slippers (like ugg slippers) were in last winter, not sure about 2012. These are the combat boots I really want, but none of the colors are in my size >.< http://www.urbanog.com/Lug-11-Military-Lace-Up-Mid-Calf-Boot_174_15411.html

what are the current trends in clothes shops?
Q. I have a job interview in a clothes shop and was wondering what current fashion trends are.

A. I don't follow women's fashion but I can provide the guys' trends for fall 2012 through summer 2013, or at least how they're predicted to be. This is according to major runway shows in Europe, so trends in American stores or unique shops will vary.

Some general trends: Slim pants/jeans (sometimes skinny), rolled up once or twice, JACKETS, hairstyles that are short on the sides/back and styled on top, accessories like watches and bracelets always make you look more stylish

Fall 2012 has some very light blues and oranges leftover from summer 2012 but they're only thrown in. Mainly, it's getting darker with blacks and grays, occasionally an obscure white or yellow dominated outfit. "A play on fabric" as Armani calls it is trendy, mixing different patterns and fabrics that you wouldn't normally match, as long as they go together in color. Outfits should stay simple and sleek though.

Winter 2012-13 is best described as "dark" and sometimes "tribal" with almost all black, brown and gray on jackets, pants and shoes/belts. Fabric play still revealant: For example, charcoal sweater with leather jacket throw-over.

Spring/summer 2013 should be sleek and include Mediterranean colors not only in just clothes but especially accessories. Like turquoise belts/shoes, bags and shirt accents. "Easter" colors is a good way to put it also. The base colors are blue and green.

What clothing items should I wear in vegas?
Q. I'm taking a trip to las vegas in April. We will be there for a week, we will be in laughlin for 2 days of that week....I have never traveled out of the midwest before, so I have no idea what to wear in vegas. I am a trendy 22 year old girl, what kinds of things will I for sure need? Like shorts or skirts or jeans? If I go to a nightclub do they have dress codes most likely? And what do people wear to them? little dresses?? Also what type of shoes? I despise sneakers. Any help would be amazing! Thanks!

A. You can wear comfy, cute fashion tops, cardigans, light jackets, jeans, shorts, skirts, flats, flip flops for walking around town during the day. But you gotta "slut your clothes up", if you will, for nightlife. I'd suggest hot a$$ little dress and high heels because you're in VEGAS baby! Or else, you might regret it when you go back to midwest. Believe me, there will be tons of girls that dress sluttier than you are, so don't worry! Most clubs have dress codes and they are usually pretty strict about it (no flip flops, sneakers, shorts, etc). All of the people at the clubs are dressed to be noticed, and have a look at me attitude. So dress up, and have a good time if you don't, you probably will feel out of place.

The person above me was right about wearing flat boots or flats if you're gonna be walking around the strips. I've experienced that myself walking down the strips with my high heels on. Oh boy, did it hurt!

Links of dress shoes or sandals from target or payless in wide will help out a lot and thank you to everyone who helps out with this one.

A. 1. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-mossimo-veruca-snub-toe-pump-assorted-colors/-/A-14242109#prodSlot=medium_1_7

2. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-xhilaration-sae-pumps-fawn/-/A-14302673#prodSlot=medium_1_8

3. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-xhilaration-susy-strappy-heel-blush/-/A-14431340#prodSlot=medium_1_14 - for a sexier/elegant look

4. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-mossimo-pearlynn-chunky-peep-toe-heels-black-white/-/A-14338288#prodSlot=medium_1_44 - for a trendy, fashionista look

7. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-sam-libby-margot-open-toe-pump-turquoise-brown/-/A-14411193#prodSlot=medium_2_11 - also to add in some colour :)

for more comfortable shoes or if it is an outdoor wedding,

8. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-mossimo-supply-co-waneta-macrame-wedge-sandal-natural/-/A-14420589#prodSlot=medium_1_40

9. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-mossimo-supply-co-latia-flat/-/A-14316336#prodSlot=large_1_10

10. http://www.target.com/p/women-s-merona-etha-cork-low-wedge-sandal-white/-/A-14385062#prodSlot=medium_3_39

there are plenty but, the basic guideline would be to go for shoe colours that are in the dress such as white or tan/beige/nude or pale yellow or pale green. in this case, avoid black as it would look a tad bit awkward with this dress.

I have fat feet does anyone know where I can buy heels?
Q. I have fat feet and I really love wearing heels and wedged shoes the only problem is I have a hard time finding shoes that fit and it makes me really really embarrassed when I can't buy the shoes I want so I was wondering if anyone knew of any trendy cool sites or shops in Atlanta that have shoes for women with fat feet.

A. The Avenue (which is a plus-size clothing store) has some shoes in wide widths (www.avenue.com; they're called "Cloudwalkers" shoes...but I'd go to a store & try them on, because they seem to run a little big); Payless; or go to a website like www. zappos.com or www.endless.com and search for the shoes that come in wider widths.

I also have wider feet...some brands are better than others. Nine West & Bandolino seem to run a little wider than some other brands of dressy shoes; for casual shoes, Born is actually a M/W width and they have some adorable wedgy sandals.
